5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good...
I got the OEM version of this hard drive and that means no box, no cables, no nothing except the hard drive. So beware. I know what I'm doing but maybe there are others out there that don't. Anyway, so far it is still running, seems fine, no problems, etc. Very fast shipping (paid for snail mail and it arrived in like three days).

1.0 out of 5 stars Failed quickly
I bought a WD5000AAJS drive which was packaged together with a Fujitsu housing. The drive was manufactured in October 2007, bought in December 2007 and failed in January 2010 after two years of occasional, light use. What was most noticeable about the drive was how hot it ran. It was borderline uncomfortable to touch the housing after the drive had been running for some...

5.0 out of 5 stars WD 500 GIG DRIVE, January 14, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a great hard drive. I've had no problems
and don't anticipate any in the future. I've owned several WD drive's since the 90's and will continue to use these great drives!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Drive But Didn't Fix my Problem, March 23, 2009
I had a drive that went bad and was hoping I could buy the exact same model number and swap the control board on it to access the data on the bad drive. Needless to say it didn't work. However this is a good drive and will most likely use it in my system at a future date. Shipping was also very quick and got it before the estimated date.

Great as a 7200 rpm drive. Works great for what it is, Western Digital always seems to work. Much slower than my 10K & 15K SCSI drives, but much (MUCH) faster than USB or Firewire external 7200 rpm drives. I have been using it for less than 90 days, so far it works fine.

1.0 out of 5 stars expensive brick, April 15, 2009
By
I bought this drive for my first PC build, it installed easy, and my BIOS picked it up, but it could not be written to. Tried numerous ideas incuding a BIOS flash. I could not even load the software off the WD site that usually comes with a retail copy. The thing would just not work. Sent it back and got a 1TB Caviar Black instead.

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely horrible hard drive!, July 10, 2008

I had one of these drives in a brand new computer crash. I bought another one as an external hard drive. BOTH crashed in one week. BOTH were less than a year old. In BOTH cases WD found an excuse for not replacing the drives when clearly there was a problem. I gave WD a chance to make good and they blew me off. DO NOT throw away your money by buying a WD drive! They WILL NOT make good when the drive goes bad and CRASHES.
