4.0 out of 5 stars Good drive, but Amazon.com information incorrect...
The drive performs very admirably. Very quiet and quite fast. However, the main problem I have is that when you click the "technical details" here on the amazon.com web site, they have incorrect information which made the purchase less desirable.

1. Amazon.com claims the drive is a 10,000 rpm drive. It isn't, it is 7200rpm.

2. They also claim...

I have tried to make thi thing work in three computers. It is never recognized in POST. I don't hear it spin with mechanic's stethoscope. I have been able to get other models (later) to work in those machines. I am certain it is in the hybrid, or "older" power coupling as it does not look like later versions of the SATA. I was unable to return as I had a Ultra-ATA/SATA...

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Western Digital 160 GB Caviar SE SATA Internal Hard Drive Kit (WD1600JDRTL) (Personal Computers)

2. They also claim that there is a 5 year warranty. There is definitely NOT a 5 year warranty. This RETAIL drive kit comes with a minimal 1 year warranty. Not getting the extra 4 years of warranty definitely makes this drive much less desireable compared to OEM packaging.

You are better off going to [...] and buying their OEM version of this drive. The OEM version comes with a 3 year warranty and it is only about $95 including shipping.

The only redeeming feature about this drive kit that it includes WD's SATA SecureConnect connector. It is definitely much more stable than the standard SATA connector (which do work). [...] also sells these for $10 (though they are currently out of stock).

5.0 out of 5 stars Good, October 7, 2005

Hard drive is what was ordered good packaging etc. the Installation kit is unnecessary if it is a replacement and drive. there should be a note that the drive needs to be formatted for first use.

I was unable to return as I had a Ultra-ATA/SATA form factor issue until I purchased a IDE-SATA card which took me past the warranty. The new Intel mobo with native SATA for my "build your own" and my new Dell don't see it.
