I used this drive to upgrade my Tivo S3 High Definition DVR. I was very impressed by how quiet this drive is. I highly recommend this if you are looking for a quiet drive for your Tivo HD upgrade. This drive is made for DVR recording and they did a great job!

I would not recommend this drive for regular PC use. It was built to run quiet and cool for DVR use.
Also this is a OEM drive. It comes in a box with nothing else. No cables no screws no manuals, nothing except the drive itself. If you need all the mounting stuff and manuals you need to purchase the retail version. This is true with most all Hard Drives.

I bought this hard drive to use as an external hard drive for my DirecTV HR21-100 receiver. I would also recommend an Antec MX-1 Hard Drive enclosure (ASIN: B000NZVR3Q) and a SIIG SATA Cable (ASIN: B000BRQU0Q).

Installing the hard drive in the enclosure is very easy, all you need is a small phillips screw driver. Remove one screw and slide the cover off. You then remove two smaller screws to pull out the actual "mounting board" for the hard drive (you also have to disconnect one jumper wire) and simply plug the drive into the mounting board. You do not need to do anything with the jumper pins on the hard drive. Reassamble and you should be good to go.

Connect the drive to the esat port on your DirecTV receiver. Use the menu to perform a "reset" of the receiver and when the receiver reboots, it should find the hard drive and format it. Any recordings you already had on the internal hard drive should still be there, but you will have to set up all your season passes, etc, again. If you disconnect the external hard drive, the receiver will go back to using the internal hard drive and you can still watch what was recorded on it.

I purchased two of these, and although one of them gave me some troubles, (lock-ups, etc) Amazon quickly sent out a replacement drive and enclosure. Please note that this hard drive is specifically designed for use in a DVR. I am very pleased with this setup.

This drive is very quiet and is the second one I have purchased; the first one went into my Tivo Series 3 and has been 100% reliable.

I used this drive to upgrade my TiVo S3. When I purchased it, it was sold by Amazon. The drive arrived in a cardboard sleeve which was lined with a single layer of small bubble wrap the same as if it were a book. I did a diagnostic on it and as expected there were some damaged sectors. I had to do a warranty replacement with WD and missed recording the summmer olympics. Western Digital has very specific guidelines on how the drives are to be shipped and Amazon didn't follow them. Customer service was not able to confirm that their packaging of bulk hard drives has improved, so proceed with caution or stick to retail package drives. Other than that, the drive works great.

I used one of these to upgrade a TiVo HD unit. The drive ran cool during the upgrade process. In operation it is extremely quiet - I have never been able to hear it seek, start/stop, etc. According to the specs. it is designed for A/V applications, and is very low in energy consumption. I think it was a great value for the money. If you want to upgrade a TiVo HD, it is cheap and easy to do with this drive and WinMFS.

I purchased this hard drive as a replacement/upgrade for my series 3 TiVo. The wife learned how to use the TiVo and was filling the original 250g drive up. This is one of the recommend drives for a TiVo. It worked great. Very low noise. I can not say much about the long term reliability because I have only had the drive in for a month.

I installed this drive in my S3 TiVo. I now have a ton of recording capacity and it is very quiet - quieter than the stock drive that came with the TiVo.

The internal hard drive on my Series 3 TiVo died while using the Netflix service. It was unfortunate due to the loss of shows and timing, but was also a blessing as I now have quadruple the storage space. This drive replacement was the easiest I've ever done for a TiVo. This is the drive to get for an internal replacement on a Series 3/HD TiVo.

Excellent drive. Quiet and great price. My TiVo has been recording for a month and still isn't full.
