This is a great product. I plug it into my Belkin usb hub and then into my laptop. It comes on every time I turn on my computer. The software is very handy and backs up every time I save something on my computer. A previous opinion misunderstood the software and thought it was only for 30 days. Not true, you have to register it with the the product number on a sticker with the instructions. I did call them once and they were helpful. It comes with 30 days of phone in help.

Great drive, my second one. I bought it in an attempt to set up a remotely located backup on one machine for two others machines, no luck. I can't figure out the software, and the WD assistance in even more confusing.

The Western Digital 500GB Book was received from Amazon on time and in excellent condition.

Works well with my AMD Athelon Computer System (actually, should have gotten the 1TB Book).

Only "downside" is that the packaged Software shipped with the Book does not seem to be completely compatible with my Vista 64-bit OS (as to the "Button Manager"), but my OS recognizes it and having an extra 500GB of storage is great.

i use this harddrive for my PS3 and PC. but you have to reformat it to FAT32 type for the PS3 to detect it.

I bought a unit like this for myself at a retail outlet about a year before buying this unit for a friend because we could not find one in any retail outlet. Out of all the units we checked none had the automatic backup capability that this unit has. All the other units required manual updating or have a separate program to use. This unit came fully loaded with everything needed to maintain an active back up hard drive. The software could use improvements. If you make major changes to one main folder of a drive you're backing up, the software doesn't recognize that you've only made a change to one folder and will redo the entire drive again. If you're doing rapid changes i.e. opening, modifying, saving a lot of pictures, you will have to suspend the drive's backup or it will make you PC crawl trying to keep up. Otherwise, for normal operations, it will keep your back up files completely up to date while you're working. I really like it.

Great backup product for our office! Works well and we purchased two so one is in a "safe place" at all times.

It's slower than I expected I have it set up as a network backup for 4 computers. usb 2.0 to my main computer and the main computer starts slower since I installed the My Book solfware waiting on the my book hard drive for some reason. The other computers use vista backup to folders on My book and work fine. I had bought a my book years ago and finally quit using it with the soft ware that come with it and only use Vista backup.

On the my book web site they say that the Office edition comes with backup software.

They forget to mention this is a trial version.

Even after you buy it you can only use it on one computer, so much for the 'Office' aspect.

I bought this product y'day and was very excited to install. Installation went very well and backup software (WD backup) got installed and ran to backup my whole system. It kept working for more than 5 hours to backup my 90G data. I let it run for the night. Today morning, I see that my PC became very slow as if the backup software completely took over the machine. I rebooted the machine and since then, my PC locks up after few mins. I removed the WD backup software, disconnect the drive, unfortunately it has left some bad taste there. I no longer can work on my PC. It just locks up after few mins of restart.
