We use this for actual backups at our work using Backup Exec since we are between backup servers.

I accidentally decided to see how rugged it was. I dropped it from counter level onto slate tile which is some of the hardest tile around. I swore it landed on an edge before it slammed into the baseboard. When I picked it up, no scratches, dents, cracks or anything to clue me in on where it hit.

Then the test came. Would it backup like it has done many time previously?
The first day, after backing up, but getting ready to run the verify, it crashed by saying the media was corrupt. But since then, it has done it's job quite well.

I highly recommend this product based on the drop and recovery test alone.
The actual model number is WD5000MEB (blue casing with light blue edging), which I couldn't locate on Amazon, but the model this review is under is the closest I could find.

I have been purchasing Western Digital Portable Hard Drives for 6 months. And this model the 500 GB My Passport Elite USB 2.0 was a great offer, a must have accesory for backing up all your pictures, personal and office documents, music and software central. I have always trusted in this excelent brand and i am nowadays convinced about the technology which WD puts in his external devices. Totally satisfied with this great Elite drive!!!

500 GIGABYTES of portable memory storage. ;You can back up your entire operating system with lots of room to spare, and still have lots of room for videos or pictures.... even for movies.
Simple to operate, too.

I have tons of Pictures and videos I have made in my 500 GB hard disk .
Its easy to carry and I recommend everyone to one with you .

Have used this portable hard drive to retrieve accidentally erased files.
It really SAVED-THE-DAY.
Program works very well, and mostly works in the background - un-obtrusivly.
I though so much of this hard drive - I bought an extra.
