5.0 out of 5 stars Nice!, September 26, 2006
This review is from: Western Digital My Book Premium Edition 160 GB External Hard Drive ( WDG1C1600 ) (Personal Computers)
I've had my WD 160gb Premium Ed. hard drive for a little while now. The reason i bought it was the styling and the blue lighting. It looks really cool on your desk if you have other blue lighting as i do on my system. You have two connectivity options (firewire 800 or USB 2.0) Although i cannot review on the firewire speeds because my laptop only has a 4pin firewire port, (This one uses a 6 pin to 6 pin firewire cable) the USB 2.0 read speed is exteremely good. When it comes to writing large amounnts of data it can get a little slower then competitors. It definately out does most of the other external hard drives in this price range when it cames to read speed. I got mine for a really good $100 deal. Ever since i've gotten it i've stored all my files on it. There's no reason to make my laptop slower by clogging the hard drive with all my files when i have this baby. I can leave all my files on this thing, come home and connect my drive and all my files can be accessed with ease. Installation was a breeze, XP recognized it immediately and within 1hr and a half i was using it (it took me 1hr n 25 mins to format from FAT32 to NTFS)

Pros:
Read speed, styling, blue lighting, choice of firewire or USB 2.0, no fans (its pretty much silent), 1 year warranty! price!

Cons:
Write speed could be faster, its a little on the large side (not too portable), hard drive comes in FAT32 format and most people will want to convert it to NTFS (A quick reformat took about 30 seconds, a full reformat to NTFS took away 1hr and 25 mins) & its made of plastic?

edit/update: I've had it for a little more time now, and i gotta say, this thing is pretty durable. I've dropped the thing 3 times in the last month. Once off my desk when i accidentally pulled the cable, Once on the ground when i was moving it, and once while it was in my backpack. Still up and running like nothing ever happened. Its durable =)

5.0 out of 5 stars WDG1C1600 exceeds my requirements, January 30, 2007

In this day and age a crashing computer can leave you in tears with lost pictures, music, work files, and financial files. I needed something that was plug and play with little trouble to get up and running. This system was better than that. The instructions were easy to follow and I had it up and running in no time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect, May 16, 2007
This review is from: Western Digital My Book Premium Edition 160 GB External Hard Drive ( WDG1C1600 ) (Personal Computers)
I've had this external hard drive for about 4 months and have not had any problems with it. I use it for my iTunes storage and to backup all the important files on my laptop. The backup software that comes with this hard drive is great, I can pick whichever file I want or don't want to backup. It's not as easy to transport as some other, smaller hard drives but the speed of firewire and size of the drive fully make up for the inconvenience of the dimensions. Overall, great buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Way Worth It!!!, April 2, 2007
This review is from: Western Digital My Book Premium Edition 160 GB External Hard Drive ( WDG1C1600 ) (Personal Computers)
I baddly needed to backup my files and was hurtin for more hardrive space so I started shopping around and asking everyone'"What is the best option out there?" I quickly learned that Western Digital is the king of hard drives. But I thought I'd waste time and continue shopping and comparing all the other flash drives, portable drives, external hard drives, etc. etc. and man are those other things a huge waste of dough. They all cost way more money and hardly do anything to show for it. So after hearing all the great reviews ang realizing how much more bang for the buck I was really getting, I finnally got it threw my head and bought the bad boy. And man was it worth it! Its everything its hyped up to be; fast, silent, mucho space, and very affordable. I doubt I'll ever need anything else ever again. Its a lifer.
