Looking for a fast, trouble-free PCIe USB 3.0 card for new WD 3TB MyBook, I first found two other brand cards. Feedback was mixed, but mostly favorable on one of them, but there were problems with DOA, install and speed. I wanted a highly-rated card, so I searched again and found this WD card. Its price was very low, it did not require extra power cables as did one of the others, and it was Western Digital branded (NEC chips under the hood), all good points. At time I purchased (mid-July) there was no rating feedback, a bad point. Being sold by Amazon for several months, that was surprising, yet because I had Amazon search trouble finding the WD card, maybe others did too. Based upon trust in Western Digital I bought it. LaserShip delivered on-time.

I installed drivers first from CD, then shut down and installed PCIe card. I started system, waited for drivers to finish auto-installing, then conducted speed tests. I found that speed never went below 75MB per second on large, 2GB size file transfers. Measuring actual speed is tricky because of Windows caching and its continued transfers AFTER the "copy" screen disappears. I have "abpmon" performance monitoring, multi-graph display always visible on right of screen so I can tell what is actually happening in Windows. While I had apparent transfers as fast as 115MB per second, the accurate, sustained speed finding was 75MB per second. Nice!

This is a great way to add USB 3.0 connectivity to your PC.

Make sure you install the software first, before you install the card.

Write Speed from internal hard-drive to WD 1TB My passport SE.

Moved 70GB of data resulted in a average speed of 60mb/sec.

Moving 10GB of data resulted in a average speed of 80mb/sec.

Moving less than 5GB of data resulted in a average speed of 100mb/sec.

This is definitely a step up from USB 2.0 which had a avg speed of 25mb/sec.

The lowest write speed I saw on this card was 55mb/sec.

There are white lights near the ports on the card which make it very easy to see so you don't have to use a flashlight when you go underneath your desk.

You don't need to add additional power to this card like some of the other cards require.

This card and drivers were easy to install and work flawlessly. Simple stated, this card works as described and I highly recommend it to anyone who would like to add USB 3.0 (the transfer speeds are freaking scary) to an existing PC and has an open PCIe slot.

I had this less than 3 months and one of the ports failed.
I contacted WD support and because it is not bundled with a hard drive (e.g. My Book), they refused to support it.
I appealed but was still denied. I highly recommend you not buy it, just for one reason: If a company will not stand behind a new product, they don't deserve for you to support their poor choices not to take care of you when it fails.

Installed this in a Dell desktop, and it seems to work fine. Installation was easy enough, but the included instructions are, without question, the worst I've encountered. Six drawings, no text. And no additional detail on the install CD, either.

I was unable to install on Win7 Ultimate x-64. Tried to track down a driver for that platform specifically, but WD's download website proved useless... called WD support (number on enclosed quick start - 800-275-4932, US English)... was directed to their site where you *can* download a driver:[...] BUT the driver here is exactly the same version that came with the card... after further discussion with the tier 1 and tier 2 support, they discovered that it is NOT SUPPORTED ON 64-BIT PLATFORMS. There is no way to tell this from the driver file (an .exe installer) or from the website - in fact, to find the driver you have to follow the following path: Support site -> Downloads -> My Book (on that page, scroll down to "Products without WD SmartWare" and hit the link for "Available Software" under the picture of "My Book 3.0"... yeah, it is that bad. So no, if you are running a 64-bit OS, skip this one! I am going to try to install it on my son's 32-bit Windows 7 - will update with that result. UPDATE: It installed as designed on Windows 7 32-bit - but to reiterate it WILL NOT install on Windows 7 64-bit.

I have Dell Studio 540 with Windows 7 x64 desktop and just purchased a WD USB 3.0 3TB My Book external hard drive. Then I purchased a USB 3.0 4 port PCI-e Card off ebay which was junk, this card also required an additional power feed from inside which took special wiring and had to search for software then it was slower than my USB 2.0 took 12 hours to back up my files. I stopped using it. Then I saw this Western Digital SuperSpeed USB 3.0 PCI Express card which did not require extra power hookup and I hoped being Western Digital it would work with my WD hard drive. I successfully loaded the software disk that came with it then installed the the new usb 3.0 card it automatically was recognized and software was found. Then I turned on External drive and executed my WD smartware it recognized the 3.0 connection to My Book and everything seemed to be working properly. Very simple painless install, this was awesome. Then for the real test I deleted my previous backups and started backing up my selected files to My Book. I immediately noticed the difference in speed I was moving a GB of data every 10 seconds, I moved 232gb of pictures in 30 min. which had taken 12 hours before on USB2. The only con about this card is it comes with only 2 usb ports the reason I bought the previous piece of junk instead was it had 4 ports. Would I switch this for different vender 4 port card, HELL NO, and if I need additional ports later then only if it was Western Digital.
