I replaced my 80GB IDE drive on a Dell 4600 with this drive. It's made a significant difference in performance.
The directions for install were a bit confusing but once I figured it out the included software installed the drive and copied all of the files from my old drive including the boot record and Windows XP. I then disconnected my old drive and rebooted using the new one.

I built computers as a side-business and I have owned HD's from all the maor companies. So, I know what a good hard drive has. This one is superb. The speed is astoundidng due to the sata 300 and the 16mb cache, reliability is excelelnt and its whisper silent. Definitely reccomend

The other poster states that you can get this drive for $50 less through the Manufacturer but fails to mention that they are selling the bare drive (oem) through Western Digital and Amazon sells the retail version which is always higher, which doesn't include data cable.

Drive worked as expected once installed. WD's on-line product description (on WD's web site) said that it came with all hardware but, a SATA power cord adapter is not included and, must be supplied by the user as there is no standard Molex style power connector. Also, WD's product description and box state that the drive is compatible with Windows Vista but, version 11.3 of WD's "Data Lifeguard Tools" CD that was was enclosed with the drive, does not provide support for Vista systems.

Fast and quiet, easy installation and great performance. Western Digital offers a very good warranty for this HD so it is definitively a good product. Although HDs are unpredictable and i just bought it a month ago i haven't experienced any troubles, except once but it was totally my fault. I accidentally deleted the boot sector so when i tried to start my computer it would freeze and would not even load the BIOS setup, that scared the hell out of me but luckyly i fixed it doing a "hot-plug" and booting from a Linux LiveCD, formated the partition and all was back to normal :)

This piece of hardware is just amazing! It's very silent and very fast. I have it for several months and with 0 problems. Both thumbs up!

Nice product. Came with nice power cable adapter if you don't have enough SATA power connectors. It's fast and quiet. Windows Vista says it's two notches faster than it PATA brother! It runs cooler too.

Fast, really fast, but has one main problem the NOISE. It's annoy me a lot.

I brought this product so, like everyone, to have more storage, but the drive is not always found, it was not so easy to install, and very confusing. If I could return it I would.

I chose this SATA drive for my Dell 8400. Originally, I wanted the 250GB hard drive to replace my original 80GB. I cleaned and did a defrag on the original drive and the install of the new drive went perfect! However, I discovered issues with the Microsoft software (XP, Outlook 2003 and Word) that I could not resolve. These issues had nothing to do with the drive itself! So I reinstalled the 80GB as the boot drive and added the WD as a second storage device. Again everything went perfect. The Data Life Tools program made the whole process very easy. The drive is quiet and I am quite happy with the new WD drive! I wish everything in my life would be this easy!
