When i decided to get a new version of Windows Vista i knew that i would need more hard drive space than my current drive had so i got this one.I use this Internal hard drive as my primary C dive and installed Vista Home Premium onto it,everything went smoothly.I like this drive a lot because it works without being noisy or over heating.Even when the drive is doing hard work it stays pretty quiet. This thing is fast, quiet and reliable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard to beat, April 27, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
To date, after a month or so's useage, I haven't a hint of a problem. The drives worked right, and continue to work right, and I have confidence they will continue to work right. Good products at decent price.

Only slight quibble: I originally bought these drives to use in conjunction with a Cooldrives caddyless drive, but found that their tiny difference in thickness caused them to be unuseable in that drive, as they become stuck and require some fancy juggling to remove. I substituted a Thermaltake Docking Station for the Cooldrive, and things are now going like clockwork.

I have two of these drives set to mirror each other in my RAID Array. They are quick and seem reliable. They are a bit noisy during read/write, but sitting idle is hardly noticeable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Experience in Purchasing Hard Drives, WD RE2 WD5000ABYS 500Gb, September 5, 2011

.... Bought these drives NEW(3), WD RE2 WD5000ABYS 500Gb., based on the manufacturer and spec sheet and warranty(5 years). Received shipment with 1 year warranty that had expired or close to it according to info on the individual drives from a sub group or supplier of Amazon.com. After many hours of conversation and sending proof of purchase to Western Digital we finally resolved this issue and I received my 5 year warranty as was part of the sale. I might add here, buying individual hard drives regardless of the manufacturer these days, is like trying to buy HEN's teeth anymore. I just do NOT know (or understand) what the BIG deal is. Something like this should have been easily resolved with a 2 or 3 minute phone call.

.... The drives are doing well and I am satisfied with the purchase.

Thank you

4.0 out of 5 stars More expensive but worth the peace of mind., August 21, 2011

I have built SATA RAID configurations in the past without using raid enabled drives and I have gone through some real nightmares, the money you save is not worth the heartache of a failed RAID. Did you know that a Windows Server 2003 box can still run with two failed RAID SATA drives, although very very very slowly. Of course it is a false hope because as soon as you reboot it's over. The drives are high quality and worked great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Drive, December 28, 2008
This review is from: Western Digital WD5000ABYS 500GB Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
Mine was a refurbished item. Works great though. Not much more I can say. I've always been very pleased with Western Digital hard drives. This particular line won't work with some VIA chipsets too well, but you can get a SATA PCI card for $20 that'll fix that problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plug and Play, All The Way!, May 29, 2008
This review is from: Western Digital WD5000ABYS 500GB Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
I feel really happy with this new Western Digital 500GB drive! I had to change my order from another drive due to the SATA II design required for my MacPro. The excellent vendor, Mega Micro Devices Inc., gave personal attention to my request for the right drive. I received the drive in two days! I opened my computer, unpacked the drive, slid it into the open bay, closed up and powered up. Less than 15 minutes! I partitioned and formatted the drive, loaded a huge collection of photos. Done! I ran a check on the disk and found no laws or errors.

4.0 out of 5 stars incorrect shipping weight, January 16, 2008

This review is from: Western Digital WD5000ABYS 500GB Hard Drive (Personal Computers)
*Update 08-19-2010*

Despite the company that this came from, this drive has been running faithfully since I bought it, and I am very satisfied with it's performance and durability. I have moved several times, carefully, and never a glitch.

I will update this review once I receive the HDD. This is to inform anyone who might purchase this that the shipping weight of 15lbs is incorrect. As of Jan 16th 08 the error has not been corrected. I contacted Electronics Direct, and after 15 mins of them telling me that I did something wrong, they conceded that a 1.7 pound HDD is probably not going to be shipped in a 15 pound container. They investigated and found out that they had sent the incorrect info to Amazon. They did refund the difference in shipping, but I doubt I will ever buy from them again, after getting hung up on twice.
