I bought this and a Western Digital My Passport 2 TB USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive -WDBY8L0020BBKNESN (Black). While I was waiting for my drive and case to arrive, I read on the WD site that the drive was not compatible with the 2 TB drive since it was thicker.
To my surprise, the case has two removable spacers with some rubber fingers on them. You can snap out the spacers and re-apply the rubber fingers, over the location where the spacers were installed. The drive will fit in the case and close with minimal effort. It does not feel like you are forcing it and if it were any easier to close, the drive would be lose and I would be concerned it would bounce around if it were to fall.

A word to the wise....these cases sell quick I bought one from the last batch not more then a week ago and they are already out of stock again so stalk this product because it really is worth it. Now to the review. This is by far the best case available for this brand of hard drives. It also is reasonably priced especially with amazons discounts. This fits all of the my passport drives even up to the 1tb version that I currently have in the case. It fits perfectly snug and you wont be disappointed with the quality of the case. WARNING DONT PLAN ON USING THIS CASE FOR MULTIPLE DRIVES UNLESS THEY ARE THE SAME SIZE. The only major complaint I have with this case is the little rubber bumpers on the inside of the lid. Because there are two different sizes for drives that fit in this case they allow for the difference with this bumpers and the directions are not very great. FIRST, when you take it out of the package it is set up already to fit the smaller form factor drives. IF you have one of the 1tb drives or one of that same size but i think that is the only one, you have to pop out the bumpers already installed and PUT THEM TO THE SIDE AND LEAVE THEM ALONE. NEXT peel off the stickers on the other two bumpers and stick them to where the others were without replacing the things you popped out. So all your doing is popping the old ones out sitting them to the side and sticking the new ones where the old ones were. DO NOT peel the bumpers off the hard plastic you pop off. SO after you switch to the larger drives you can always go back to the smaller ones but this with cause you to remove the bumpers for the larger drives which will obviously make them lose there sticky which renders them useless.
I figured this out and I just wanted to warn everyone else to not buy this for more then one size drive. I know the description might make it seem like this is universally compatible with all sizes which it is but with the catch I mentioned above. Thats about it, thanks for reading.

It's well built. It's even kind of interesting as an object. I have a 2TB USB 3 My Passport drive and it fits just fine. I'm curious why there isn't an integrated cable carrier incorporated in the case. Unless there's a hidden compartment I haven't found yet... It's already fairly large and heavy so I don't imagine these were design concerns. It's a little silly to have a loose cable to deal with when it could easily be incorporated in the case.

At work we deal with huge data files that we need to take offsite or mail to clients. The only way to quickly move this large amount of data around is on External Hard Drives. Over the years we have had some issues when thru rough handling or the hard drives being dropped they became damaged and stopped working. So, I am always on the lookout for a good priced case that provides top protection. I think these are the first I am completely satisfied with.

The case is about the same size as other External Hard Drive cases I have dealt with but a little heavier. Our WD Passport Essential's hard drive fit snug in the case, in fact it fits so well you might have trouble getting it out easily once in the case. One nice thing about this case is that there is an opening on the bottom for the USB cable to plug into the drive, so once you put a drive in the case you really don't ever have to take it out again.

I played around with it a little to test how much protection it really provides. We had some old Western Digital Passport Drives to play around with, so I put them in the case and dropped them from different heights. Anything dropped from 5 feet worked fine, even dropped them from around 8 feet and 2 of the 3 worked fine afterwards. So, I'm very happy with the level of protection the case offered, plus they are water and dust resistant.

Only bad thing I have experienced so far is there is no room for a USB cable in the case or ability to attach to case externally.

I very much enjoy this case. I feel much more comfortable letting the airlines gate-check my bag now that my HD is in this majorly rugged case.
I wish the USB cable was somehow integrated into the case so that I wouldn't have to open up a small rubber flap & compromise the seal, but compared to what else is available this case is fantastic.
Another want would be the ability to attach the cable to either the outside or the inside of the case. For now expect to find a place for the included cable as well.

About three months later and this case (and my hard drive) are still going strong. The case hasn't suffered any major damage although the textured paint on the top (The beveled area surrounding the WD Logo) has suffered a scratch. Between now and the first review, this drive as accompanied me on 20+ flights (Some quite turbulent) and about 75% of those where I had to gate-check the bag this case & drive was in. HD Tune health checks of the drive come up normal and the SMART information reports nothing abnormal. I did have one experience where this case/drive was connected to one of the front panel ports on my mid-tower while I though it was a good idea to reach "through" it to get to the rear of the case. This made the drive/case drop 2.5 to 3ft to the ground while plugged in, powered and spinning. My heart sunk into my stomach and I immediately pulled the USB 3.0 cable from the port.

Now if you're even moderately knowledgeable about how a hard disk works (Look it up, it's quite interesting, try [...] an impact like that while the platters are spinning can be a VERY costly mistake. My opinion is that the case cushioned the impact and saved the drive. Multiple read and write tests and a few benchmarks later, the drive reports everything as normal.
