Excellent,
By Hermin Hollerith, Maker of Tacky Wreaths in t... (Ann Arbor, MI and Generally Man of the World) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: The Western Heritage: Volume 2 (9th Edition) (Paperback)
For non-history majors, this book is one of the best history texts I've read (or been required to read). Although at a few points it seems to be excessively wordy, it becomes apparent that the authors want the reader to grasp the importance of this element of history. Or put another way, this isn't a Cliff's Notes history book, you're going to get more than just the essential details because the authors want you to understand all facets of how this element caused future events to unfold. If you're not into history, it can take some effort to get through the details.
All political issues seem to be treated with a neutral stance, a temptation many other authors have found it hard to resist. And the book covers important cultural events that shape the century. This book isn't necessarily an easy read. Be prepared to find your way to a dictionary. If this book is required as part of your history course, relax. Everything is going to be all right, just be sure to budget plenty of time to read the chapters and it is very helpful to make notes while you read. As stated above, there can be a lot of detail and dates to remember.

Easy to read and comprehend, I bought this textbook for my Western Civ. class and it was definitely one of the better books I had to read that semester.

I did not like this book very much. There was information missing and it didn't even start out at chapter 1. The book also didn't go along with what the teacher was teaching, and all my classes do. I was pretty disappointed with this book. It might have just been my copy but I really didn't like this book at all. The glossary wasn't very good and there was just information missing.
