4.0 out of 5 stars I'm freezing... I'm crying snow..., September 18, 2003

Acquired this album in France last week. I was pleasantly surprised at how original most of the songs on here are. I had never heard of the artist Dionysos before, I had just heard "Song for Jedi" at a friends house and then got the album. Although there are very few lyrics in most of the songs (lots of repetition), the sound just.... works.

If you don't know french you might be missing something here. Half of the songs are in english, but the lead singer's accent is painful to the ears. I actually wish it was all in French.

If you can find it for a decent price, get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars When I was a child, I was a Jedi., January 7, 2003

This is a great album. I picked it up in France after falling in love with the album's big hit, "Song For Jedi." These guys do love the Pixies, but they're also remarkably original, and the extremely strong accents when they're singing in English is something you'll either love or hate. Their nonsense lyrics are charming. I've been listening to this for a while and have yet to grow tired of it. "I love you, so come to me and take off your clothes!"

4.0 out of 5 stars A Delight, September 21, 2002

A great Albini-pop album. My brother bought it in France, (Hi Drew!) and it sounds great. They love the Pixies even more than you do. But they're more than just a Pixie nostalgia band. They have a jam with a banjo, for crissake's. There are constantly astonishing moments. John McEnroe's Poetry is a classic novelty song. Maybe Steve Albini's best production job to date--it's very creative. AIDs.

4.0 out of 5 stars dionysos,, June 10, 2006
This review is from: Western Sous La Neige (Audio CD)
it's a nice cd, the songs i loved as they are so lively and silly. you can make meaning to them. the words CAN be repetitive, it's pretty simple, but its not just mindless catchy ye-ye songs either, the tunes are alternately comlex and full.

p.s. its not 'i love you so come to me and take of your clothes', its i love you, you're the sky of my heart so come to me and take off your clouds. and clouds sounds like clothes due to his accent. accident? i dont know.

two of the really cool songs are dequise en pas moi and don diego 2000. they have themes actually, and the songs connect to older songs (liquid princess).. theyre playful but still somehow, deeper than just foolisheness. depends on what you read into it.

At least the three reviewers above me gave this cd good ratings, but they sound like stupid idiots. I especially hate the third one. What a dumb ass.
OK, DIONYSOS is one of the best bands ever. Forget about what those dips#$%s said about "strong accents" whatever, it has nothing to do with it, and he really doesn't. Like the reviewers above me are so full of it and wanting to pretend that they are something (ugh, I hate them.) that they put that in there like it has some meaning to whether the cd is good or not. Obviously, they can put words down, but there is nothing really going on in their pea sized thing they call a brain. They don't get it. You can't hide stupid. Anytime a group of people from another country, like Dionysos, admire and love things in your country, it's not a negative, and those reviewers above me make it into some critical thing, like it ruins their sensitive dips#$% taste buds. It's AWESOME music, and if you listen to music for the exact meaning of words, you have no idea what music is all about. There are a lot of really great feelings and ideas throughout the cd, and all of the songs are fun. It's like when I was small, I wondered why a musical group would make a slow, lame song. Why not make every song fun? It's like I remember that it seemed like a lot of groups have one to three popular songs that sell the cd and the rest of them are crap. Not Dionysos. The WHOLE cd is good, and the songs are great. Sometimes maybe insiders, like Americans, miss out on real meanings of the things in our culture, and it takes an outside admirer's perspective to make us appreciate and better understand what we have. Like I think it's funny how they have a song about John MacEnroe. And it isn't some lame song, it's awesome and funny! A lot of the things are funny if you understand French culture, and you can see some things in this cd that are modern popular French culture. Anyway, if you like the popular song by the Pixies, "Where is my head" or whatever it is, then make the song ten times better and nicer to listen to and put a cool French twist on it, and voila! DIONYSOS.

P.S. Pretty much, there's a very, very good chance that this cd is too cool for you, and Dionysos is way over your head, but buy the cd, come at it with a humble attitude, and maybe you will catch on, and that will make you eternally greatful from the inside out.
