Most complete compendium of sheet music of western swing,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Western Swing Fiddle (Paperback)
This is the most complete compendium of sheet music that I have found of western swing fiddle music. Examples: 5 versions of Milk Cow Blues from Guy "Cotton" Thompson (1941) to Keith Coleman (1973); 5 versions of Miss Molly from 1942 by Louis Tierney, Joe Holley and Bob Wills and combinations; Wild Dog (1928) by Joe Venuti; After You've Gone (1936) by Stuff Smith; Spade Cooley, Bobby Bruce, Hugh Farr! There is lots to digest here. Lots of history, interviews and photos of the bands. The book is out of print, but I ordered CDs directly from Stacy Phillips that include the original material and some other transcriptions as well. The book is so thick & binding so stiff that it does not sit on a music stand easily. I took it to a print shop & had the binding cut and the pages punched for a comb binding. Now it sits easily and I can turn pages without knocking it off the shelf. If you learn all the material in this book, you can audition with confidence for any band in Texas. Look out Jason Roberts, here I come!
