Worst purchase I have ever made.,
This review is from: Westinghouse 32" LCD Tv W3223 (Electronics)
I purchased this tv on black friday of 2009 for 249$. I have had nothing but troubles with it since then. The picture will go out for a second, then 2 seconds, then 3 seconds, then up to 6 seconds, the screen just turns black. Sometimes it will look like it is glitching out. I can honestly say this is the worst 249$ I ever spent in my life. ADVICE TO ANYONE LOOKING TO PURCHASE A HDTV--- DO NOT BUY WESTINGHOUSE.

Greatest $600 I've Ever Spent!,
This review is from: Westinghouse 32" LCD Tv W3223 (Electronics)
That's right! I spent 600 Dollars on this about 2 and a half years ago, and I bought it at Best Buy, not Amazon. It has had some problems, glitches or what not but it's really nothing if you take into factor how great the picture is and how long it could last. Every day since Iv'e had it I've had it on for atleast 12 hours, so obviously it's not completley cheap, you see buying this a while back, even for 600, I knew it was a cheap LCD Tv, so I didn't expect much of it, and it was my first Hdtv purchase, though it delivers everything that a 720P TV can.

like the above users my review is not actually for this model, but for the model that was sold at target for $248 on black friday.
I have been using this television for over a month now and i have very few complaints. the TV was packaged very well and i was very suprised how slim it was. I had been using a regular tube television for years and finally felt like this one was the perfect size and price for me to upgrade on, and for now im glad i did. The colors are very vivid and in high definition 720p the picture is superb. i feel that the 720p display has been amazing and i do not at all regret my purchase, im not sure how the picture could be any better as everything is already crystal clear in hd. All of my friends have 1080p big screen televisions that i regularly watch and i must say that when i have mine connected in HD i am unable to notice any major difference in picture quality. Im sure their resolution is better, but there has never been a time where i have noticed my television is lacking on any color or definition aspects. -when i first got it out of the box i noticed how well packaged it was, and is covered by shrink rap which you can chose to leave on. it covers the outer edges of the unit. -when first connecting it to the cable box i had problems setting channels, i want to say it asked me every time i turned the Tv on the first few times to program channels, but has since kept all of those settings. -The colors and definition of picture is very clear. i had a friend who purchased a sylvania television on sale and mine definitely has more vivid colors and better picture than his did. - i have used the television for a computer monitor, to play movies and video games. The picture quality was much better on the television than it was on my monitor for downloaded movies. it seems like the image buffer in the televisions works to clear up some of the blurryness of my movie downloads and actually made some of my poor quality rips look like standard dvd playback.. Game play was good, but i think its a little too large to use if your going to set it up on your desk with a keyboard infront of it. - i really wish there was a "picture in picture" setting for this tv. I assumed all new larger televisons came with this, but apparently they dont. it would have been an amazing machine to have both my computer and television on the screen at once. After seeing some of the reviews for older westinghouse products i am hoping that they have fixed their previous issues. that being said i am very happy with my new purchase. pro's: -very clear picture -great colors cons: -The remote: if the remote is not pointed directly at IR port which is directly under the W symbol on the TV, it will not recognize any signal. It seems like the remote has to be exactly level and pointed directly at the front of the TV to work. -i noticed almost immediately how cheap the speakers sounded when i first turned the Tv on. they sounded like a cheap set of computer speakers, but after adjusting the functions in the menu it sounds fine now. -There is no headphone port for "line out". however there are the audio out ports on the back which you can buy a plug to convert into a headphone jack from radioshack. i wanted this because i have a very expensive set of amplified computer speakers i wanted to connect since i thought sound quality wasnt up to par with my old tube television in summary, if you can buy this tv on sale for anywhere near $300 i would definitely recommend it. however with targets price back up to $429 i would purchase a name brand unit just because some of the previous westinghouse models have had problems. I only gave this product 4 stars because i feel like the speakers are cheap, and the remote feels cheap as well, with several buttons on the remote that arent even used. You would think something that retails for $429 would feel like it did, but the remote still makes me feel like its a $250 tv i got on sale because it doesnt work very well. so far my unit has been a great purchase, i got it for $238 after i signed up for a 10% savings with a target red card.

Very happy that I waited and bought this TV,

This review is for the Westinghouse 32" LCD TV SKU-32H640G.
The reason I open with that above statement, is that the picture and model number here is of another TV other than the one I also got as a black Friday deal for $246 at Target. I am unsure of how they might have done things this year, but I know in the past Target and other stores have received similarly equipped but completely different models in different stores to cater to the bargain hungry black Friday crowds. Therefore, this review is for the 32H640G, NOT the W3223 pictured above. That said, here's my review: This being my second HDTV (previous was a 26" Ilo, purchased in 2006 which I have now given to a friend)I was already familiar with the high quality picture these TVs offer. I have been shopping for a while and after much consideration, the Samsung TVs as a whole had impressed me the most, followed by 2 Dynex models and finally, the Westinghouse. So why wait? Well I wasn't in any big hurry, the only real reason for my wanting to get another tv simply because I wanted a slightly bigger picture. Then I heard about the leaked black Friday Target ad. A Westinghouse 32" 720 p tv for only $246? Impossible I figured, from a quality standpoint. It had to be a lower quality model than the one I had seen and compared. When I asked the associate in the electronics dept 2 days before the sale whether or not they might have other Westinghouse Tv's in the back, specifically only for the black Friday event, he said not that he knew of. So I said to him it was probably likely that the one on display was going to be the one on sale. He said "I can't confirm it, but you can pretty much bet on it" 'Yay!' I thought. Then I asked for an even more thorough demonstration than the one I had previously. After all was said and done, I was so impressed with the Westinghouse that I set my alarm clock to be up and at the store by 5 am. I wasn't disappointed. It was the one on display. And I was one of the very few who got one. (limited supply of only 24 tv's for the sale) Since I got this tv home and set up, I cannot find any major faults with it. What makes this TV particularly great is the remote and menus. While it is true that I am technologically saavy, even I find myself frustrated with menus and remotes that are ridiculously complicated to operate. (Sony, take note of this for future iterations of your home theater systems, your remotes and menus drive us ABSOLUTELY BONKERS!)I would sacrifice all the extras in the world just to have simplicity in my menu navigation. Luckily, I sacrificed nothing and got my wish. Things that take multiple steps and laborious searching and illogical navigation on other tv's, even on my previous ILO, have been enormously simplified on this Westinghouse. Whatever it is you're looking to do, you can do quickly and logically. Another great feature is the amount of color depth there is in this tv. Lower end models tend not to utilize the full color spectrum properly, but this tv does that and then some. There is no 'bleed' or ghosting of colors against each other and no 'shadow' of residual colors as scenery changes or people move within frame. Admittedly however, the colors were a bit glaring in their saturation out of the box, but once I navigated through setting up the colors and adjusting the brightness, it truly started operating on a level with Samsung. As far as the difference between the composite versus hdmi set up, I can tell you that even if you opt for just the composite jacks and not the hdmi, you won't be disappointed. You can see the effort westinghouse has put in with trying to closely duplicate the hdmi experience even in simple composite. (the hdmi here though is quite incredible, impossible to believe it gets much better than this yet I know it does, having seen LED tvs. technology is wonderful!) Some other nice features: A glowing blue light while on, and orange while off that reflects on the base. The softly sculpted curve of the piano black finished frame and base provides an elegant, high end TV experience. One tiny flaw is that in highly quick motion, the processor is a tad too slow. This has only happened twice thus far, and since I saw the same flaw in a Samsung on display, I am not going to gripe about such a minor issue. The only time it would be noticed is in a scene where someone is moving exceptionally quicker than normal, and even in action movies, this is not going to be a frequent enough occurrence to cause any concern. Most people probably wouldn't even notice it, but I am meticulous in my TV experience and want to be thorough in my review. Bottom line here, the Westinghouse 32" LCD TV SKU-32H640G is a truly terrific value in relatively inexpensive LCD Tv's. In fact, it may be the best one out there, period. I will update you on this tv as I experience more time with it. Special note: Anyone who knows my reviews knows that I am fair and just, and give products true reviews, not only glowing recommendations simply to have a bunch of high ratings. I present honest opinions of the products I buy. I am not employed by or compensated by any company I choose to spend my money with.

I just picked up this TV at the 2009 BlackFriday sale at Target.
The TV was packed well in the box to protect from any shipping damage. I hooked it up to a DirectTivo via composite so I can't speak for HDMI digital quality at this time. The color quality was off but after adjusting the contrast and a few other settings I have it looking great. Some cheaper TVs have problems with audio quality but the audio for this TV is clear. The only negative I can say right now is that I could not get my Tivo Peanut remote working for the TV power operation, but was able to get volume controls working. I am very happy with the purchase and at the BlackFriday discounted price I think it was the best LCD TV deal this holiday season. |
