I bought this at Sams for 54 dollars and change, I highly recommend someother form of protection. Okay i can't be all negative so lets see what was good. It installed in 15 minutes and you need a ladder a concrete drill bit and a regular or phillips head screwdriver. It is not as sensitive as i would have liked it picks up movement at about 18 feet so if you are worried about the street traffic setting this one off no worries. The light is about as powerful as a 40 watt bulb. Yes it floods 40 dim watts of light at what ever you point the 2 [positionalble flood lamps at. I don't know if it was just mine or this is supposed to happen but it starts to blink after a while like it has become hot and malfunctions. It will not cut off blinking until the battery is exhausted. I hope you have better luck with this than i did. At first i though this is a cool security feature, but it never turned off after it started blinking. Pretty annoying. I am really about to remove it from the side of my house and 86 this one.

I had to update my comment... it's working now... read,

Ok, to make it fair, I am updating my comment. The sensor is working fine now. The sensor as a great range. The new flat style LEDs are super bright. I think I know why the sensor did not work at first was that, I had it laying on an outdoor table to charge the battery, but one day it rained real hard. I think there might have been too much moisture in the sensor. Well, now that it's mounted and the sensor is in the downward position, it must have dried out. Thanks goodness it's working... I did not want to have to take it down after all that work to mount it.

Disappointing,

I'm a handyman and installed this unit for a client. It's a pretty simplistic design, the mounting hardware is quite cheap, and the adjustable "arm" for the solar panel is weak and floppy (not tight and rigid, which it should be to adequately hold the solar panel up).
I tried to discourage my client from installing it, as it didn't look like something that would last very long. The motion detector is relatively inconsistent, seems to pick up movement when it wants to, causing you to have to wave your arms frantically to make it come on (making you look like a lunatic when walking up to your house). If you're looking for a good quality motion-sensor security light, I'd keep looking.

I have 2 of these units around my yard. They worked half the time for the first month and then would work some times for the first 3 months. Now after 3 months, they dont work at all! They do however make a great paper weight! I wouldn't buy these!

The battery in these units is Proprietary. You can only get it from them. I called Westinghouse customer support. They told me that the batteries last about a year and are $9.99 + $ 7.00 S&H each. If you buy more than 1 you pay S&H for each. The original battery is a 4V 2.5 AH SLA and has the following dimensions 1"x2"x2-7/8". I tried several other sources and no one sells a 4V SLA battery that will fit in the limited space available. If you buy this product expect to pay $17.00 per year to maintain it. |
