Inaccurate info in previous review.,

A previous reviewer stated that this unit does not have a HDMI input. If you look at the photos, you can clearly see that it does have HDMI. What it does not have is a DVI input. You will need a DVI (from your video card) to HDMI adapter to enjoy the highest image quality.

Never really looked at Westinghouse in the past, but this guy was sitting next to the Samsung at BB and Westinghouse had a better picture; was brighter, clearer, and had better colors. Now I know what you see in the store usually is not what you have when you get home. But, this Westinghouse has been an exception. Wonderful in every aspect. The only thing I don't really like about is the side controls. Each button has basic and advanced functions assigned to them. Makes setting adjustments a little cumbersome, not difficult just a little frustrating. Got it for a fair price. So far (and I repeat, so far) I am 100% happy with this purchase. After the one year warranty passed I will defintely know if Westinghouse past reputation is still with them. I actually expect something bad to happen, but its possible they have reach the level Sony has been at for some time.

Awesome screen,

Bought this about 1 1/2 months ago from Best Buy at a really good sale price ($399 for a 24" LCD!). I was hesitant since I never heard that Westinghouse was a good brand for monitors. I saw the Amazon reviews and also looked up other internet reviews and didn't see any recurrent problems. I brought it home, turned it on, and it's been working absolutely beautifully. I work from home with extended hours (12-15 hours a day) and use 2 computers to log on to 4 different systems simultaneously, so this is on from 9am to 2am, at least, daily. This monitor allows me to view 2 systems side by side, while providing me precious desktop space in my tiny guest room (I had a large CRT before). One software I use has very tiny letters, making me squint all day long. With this monitor, that's no longer a problem. I haven't hooked it up to HDTV, but intend to do that down the road. I bought extended warranty just because I've noticed that monitors don't last long anymore. I hope I won't need it. The monitor is bright and lights up the room. My kids love to play on it with their online games when I'm not using it. I wish it had PIP, but for the price, reliability, and features, this is a slam dunk. Very happy with it.
Update: I've owned this screen for over a year now (15 months?) and it's still working great. I tried hooking it up to my Comcast cable box to watch TV on it but the video quality wasn't that great. In fact, the video from a DVD or cable TV looks fuzzier or less defined on this screen than on a regular TV. I haven't fiddled with the controls, nor even read the manual, so I don't know if I just haven't fine-tuned it. I've stopped using the TV/video part of it, but it's still on all day long and works great. I've also hooked up a Wii to this system and it works OK, just that, again, the video quality is not that great. But as a monitor, the screen looks great.

I love mine,
This review is from: Westinghouse L2410NM 24-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
I ordered mine open-box from some obscure site just looking for a cheap monitor. I did not expect to end up with such an amazing product. The difference between this monitor and all the other LCDs I own is dramatic. Everything is improved; the colors are fantastic, amazing contrast, powerful (and adjustable) brightness settings. I hook up my 360 to this screen and the quality is unmatched from anything else I've used.
The biggest drawback is that it does not have an audio output so you're stuck using the monitor's speakers when using it for other purposes. It's a little wobbly if you push it but it doesn't come close to falling over ever. The buttons for the menu are a little confusing at first, but once you get the hang of them they're just minorly annoying.

Good picture quaily lcd but with some flaws.,

I got this from compusa like 3 years ago, at the time the montior was great. It has very good picture quailty many connections and what not.
The major down side is that the HDMI plug on the montior is faulty. It blacks out randomy, like you can be sitting at desktop playing a game etc, it would just black out for a sec and show the screen again. There was times where it would do it muiti times after each other, this is a flaw in the HDMI inside the montior. It doesnt effect the D-sub and other connectors. Just the HDMI connection. Montior is good but thats a very bad flaw. I dont recommand the montior at all if your planning to use HDMI on the montior. But if you fine with using D-sub then go for it. But other wise look at another montior that doesnt have this flaw.

I got a couple of these L2410NM monitors, and have been very pleased with them.
To make it clear, there IS an HDMI input. There is NOT a DVI . There is also a VGA input, component / progressive scan input, standard RCA input and S-Video input. I've used all the input connections, and only the HDMI input will continue to give you a blue screen if the PC is put to sleep (which is a shame). I mostly use the monitor for doing large network Visio drawings and graphics work, and recently I dedicated one to become a media station connected to a spare PC running Windows Media Center. It works great for this purpose, but I had to fall back on the VGA input because it was too annoying to put the PC to sleep and still have the monitor turned on. I really couldn't tell the difference anyway in quality since I have the resolution turned down to 1280 x 768 in order to make web surfing visible from across the room. The menus are classic Westinghouse with buttons you have to "feel for" along the right hand side. I really wish they would replace the buttons and make them easy to find and easily labelled. The menu system really isn't bad...it's having to work the menus by "feel" that sucks. I've used it a lot for video games, TV, DVD's, and graphics work on the PC and I'm really pleased with what I got for the price. The only actual "bug" is the blue screen when you use the HDMI signal when the PC is turned off. Tom

Good value,
This review is from: Westinghouse L2410NM 24-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
I bought a pair of these babies and I am very happy with them. A nice set of inputs, very clear, the controls seem intuitive enough to me (despite some other's opinions on that), and reasonable price point. At first I found them too bright, so I turned the brightness down to a value of 50. The next day I tied 30. A day or two later I took the setting down to 0, which seems the right level of brightness for me anyway. I wasn't looking to suntan in front of these things. ;-)

Alot of bells and whistles......,
This review is from: Westinghouse L2410NM 24-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
.....as far as the inputs go. Composite, HDMI, RCA, S-Video, Audio....are you kidding? The only thing lacking is DVI. Need an HDMI to DVI cable. DON'T get one at a retail store (30-60 bucks), order from Amazon. I got a 10 foot for 10 bucks. Anyway, it has speakers built in, which actually sound descent for general TV. Don't go thumpin' 2PAC, they aren't built for that! Wish it had as remote as well. I plan on using it primarily for a monitor and as an added bonus, going to hook up my cable box and use it as a TV in the bedroom. The picture is great and the price is great, would recommend. Oh, one hint, I just bought this thing tonight at Best Buy for 350, Amazon is selling for over 450, so shop around.

A big dissapointment,

This review is from: Westinghouse L2410NM 24-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
I bought my Westinghouse monitor two months ago. When I first set it up, I was pleased with the picture...clarity, sharpness, blacks and colors; however, when I started using it for my photography (which is my primary use), the screen turns a blue tint, then changes to pink, then a light tan. It makes correcting photographs nearly impossible...no flashing, but a gentle color change.
Fortunately, I purchased it at Sam's Club and they will accept the return. I have not decided which monitor I will purchase next, but no more Westinghouse for me. Possibly Westinghouse doesn't have the proven experience yet. Previously, I had a flat screen 19" LCD NEC and was extremely happy with it, but after 4 years it died. Any suggestions from readers who also are photo nuts??? I would appreciate your input. Thanks and God bless you. Joy

Dead after 1 month,
By
This review is from: Westinghouse L2410NM 24-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor (Black) (Electronics)
Good picture, clear bright screen, but runs extremely hot if brightness is turned up. Lacks DVI input, requires DVI->HDMI converter for digital input from most computers. Also has VGA, component and composite video inputs, but converting digital video signal to analog (VGA) results in fuzzy picture. Wobbly stand.
Now for the clincher: the unit died after one month. Westinghouse support is terrible. Three week wait to receive a replacement model. For an item this expensive, you would think Westinghouse would take better care of their customers. I do not plan to buy from Westinghouse again - by comparison, my NEC monitor has lasted 5 years and is still going strong. |
