Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Save space in your entertainment center and enjoy vivid, colorful video with the 27-inch Westinghouse LTV-27W2 LCD TV, featuring a super-bright, HD-ready widescreen display and a stylishly thin, wall-mountable and frame-ready design. It has a built-in 181-channel NTSC tuner and it's capable of displaying high definition TV signals with an optional receiver or cable/satellite set-top box. In addition to HDTV functionality, this set can also be used as a PC monitor via the DVI and VGA inputs. It comes with a tabletop stand that's removable for wall mounting (with optional hardware).

The LTV-27W2 has a 1280 x 720-pixel resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, 16ms (millisecond) response time, 170-degree viewing angle, 550 cd/m2 (candela per square meter) brightness rating--perfect for viewing colorful details in even direct sunlight--and 600:1 contrast ratio. (The higher the contrast ratio, the greater a TV's ability to display subtle color details and not get washed out by ambient room light.) It's capable of displaying 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i high-definition video.

It features Faroudja's Emmy award-winning DCDi deinterlacing and scaling technology to up-convert standard video in DVDs to HD resolutions. DCDi (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing) technology eliminates the jagginess that conventional upconverters introduced to diagonal edges in video. FaroudjaÕs unique DCDi algorithm identifies all the moving edges in a scene and adjusts the angle of interpolation at each pixel so that the interpolation always follows the edge instead of crossing it, eliminating staircasing or jagged edge artifacts.

The 3D comb filter separates brightness and color signals better in 3D domain to eliminate cross-color, cross-luminance and dot-crawl distortion. It performs field-by-field comparisons of the television image to accurately separate the color from the black-and-white information and remove both horizontally and vertically hanging dots, as well as dot crawl, resulting in a razor sharp image.

This set also performs 3:2 pulldown detection and reversal, too--a handy feature for watching progressive-scan movie programs in their native 24-frame format. To adapt 24 frames-per-second movies to 30 fps video, frames in the original movie must be duplicated; 3:2 pulldown digitally corrects this duplication by removing the redundant information to display a frame-accurate picture. Other video processing features include 3D-de-interlacing and progressive scan conversion, low-angle interpolation, and 3D digital upscaling (often beyond HD resolution). Other convenience features include an adjustable backlight for ambient lighting and power savings, picture-in-picture capability, closed caption decoding, and V-Chip parental controls.

It has two bottom-mounted stereo speakers that produce 18 watts of total audio power (9 watts per channel). It offers the following connection options:

  • Composite AV (RCA): 2 in
  • S-Video: 1 in
  • Component Video: 2 in
  • DVI: 1 in
  • PC VGA: 1 in
  • RF: 1 in
  • Headphone: 1

Tech Talk
Component video (also called Y/Pb/Pr) features a three-jack video input, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. You will need a separate RCA left/right audio cable for sound.

DVI (Digital Video Interface) provides an uncompressed transfer of high definition video from a digital video source to a digital display device. This universal standard for connecting flat-panel monitors is also used for data projectors, plasma displays, and digital TVs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great buy. Superb picture quality., June 14, 2005

This review is from: Westinghouse LTV-27W2 27" Widescreen Progressive-Scan LCD TV (Electronics)
Plenty of inputs, expecially high res. Terrestrial HDTV (720p & 1080i) through the DVI input is amazing. I like the picture quality of this TV better than some of the Plasma screens I've seen. I especially like that the speakers are on the bottom of the screen instead of on the sides allowing this TV to fit in narrower places than comparably sized LCD WS TVs, although at a slightly higher profile. This TV fit in an area where an old 27" 4:3 aspect tube set used to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bang for the buck. Excellent picture quality, May 25, 2005
This review is from: Westinghouse LTV-27W2 27" Widescreen Progressive-Scan LCD TV (Electronics)
Just got this display. After a quick THX calibration, DVD from progressive scan player via component looked awesome. Clear, clean and crisp. Saw this display at BestBuy next to a 26 Sharp LCD. Could not tell the difference when viewing the HD feed. Color and detail are excellent. Over the air HDTV is stunning. Excellent color and contrast on this display.

Picture quality and features exceed expensive brands. Saw it at BestBuy next to a sharp. The PQ was higher than the 27" sharp but the price was half. Bought it without hesitation and I am very happy with it. Negative points: slow startup and quick flickering on channel change.
