5.0 out of 5 stars Great buy. Superb picture quality.
Plenty of inputs, expecially high res. Terrestrial HDTV (720p & 1080i) through the DVI input is amazing. I like the picture quality of this TV better than some of the Plasma screens I've seen. I especially like that the speakers are on the bottom of the screen instead of on the sides allowing this TV to fit in narrower places than comparably sized LCD WS TVs, although...

2.0 out of 5 stars Black levels are terrible on this set.
This was my first LCD purchase. I fired this thing up and at first was blown away by the beautiful bright picture. Then a dark scene came up and everything looked like a washed out grey. This set can not do blacks. I have tried everything from brightness, contrast, and backlight adjustments to no avail. The response time for gaming is poor as well with ghosting and...

I especially like that the speakers are on the bottom of the screen instead of on the sides allowing this TV to fit in narrower places than comparably sized LCD WS TVs, although at a slightly higher profile. This TV fit in an area where an old 27" 4:3 aspect tube set used to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bang for the buck. Excellent picture quality, May 25, 2005
This review is from: Westinghouse LTV-27W2 27" Widescreen Progressive-Scan LCD TV (Electronics)
Just got this display. After a quick THX calibration, DVD from progressive scan player via component looked awesome. Clear, clean and crisp. Saw this display at BestBuy next to a 26 Sharp LCD. Could not tell the difference when viewing the HD feed. Color and detail are excellent. Over the air HDTV is stunning. Excellent color and contrast on this display.

Picture quality and features exceed expensive brands. Saw it at BestBuy next to a sharp. The PQ was higher than the 27" sharp but the price was half. Bought it without hesitation and I am very happy with it. Negative points: slow startup and quick flickering on channel change.

5.0 out of 5 stars Westinghouse 27 inch HDTV, September 27, 2005

This is an excellent product that combines effecient design and great styling to provide wonderful high def television. You will need High def cable box input to take full advantage, but the reception, color balance, sound, contrast are all great. You really can view this from 80 degrees in either direction.

The price was considerably less than many other models available

Set up is easy. The only complaint I have is I am unable to use my TIVO remote to activate the TV, because the set does not use a recognizable code for the TIVO universal remote.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing TV for the price, April 12, 2005
This review is from: Westinghouse LTV-27W2 27" Widescreen Progressive-Scan LCD TV (Electronics)
I just bought the Westinghouse 27 inch widescreen TV from Best Buy for $999, and I am amazed that I have this kind of screen for such a low price. Right now it is on top of my computer desk, and I am writing this article from its crystal clear screen (I hooked up my computer with DVI). I highly recommend this TV over any other screen other than Sharp, but Sharp sells for $1799. Enjoy this one and get it while you still can!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice TV for the Money, October 20, 2005
This review is from: Westinghouse LTV-27W2 27" Widescreen Progressive-Scan LCD TV (Electronics)
We have a media room in the basement of the house with a large projection HD TV, so we were looking for something smaller to go in our family room upstairs. I also didn't want to spend a ton of money. So after some research online and stopping into several stores, we decided to go with the Westinghouse 27W2. We hooked it up to an HD cable DVR box using a DVI cable and are very happy with the results. The following are some of the PROS & CONS we've noticed with the set:

PROS:
Great HD and DVD Picture.
Great Sound on the built in speakers.
Plenty of hookup options.
LOW PRICE

CONS
Slow startup cycle.
No indicator to let you know TV is on.
Some color distortion if viewing from side angle.

So overall if your looking for a secondary set, it fits the bill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Value, January 14, 2006

I have been watching this TV for about a week and couldn't be happier with the purchase. I bought it sight unseen over the Syntax Olevia 27" (similar specs and price) because the speakers are located under the screen which made my wife happier about having it in the bedroom (it "looks" smaller).

I was a little nervous since I haven't heard of Westinghouse having a good brand with LCD TVs but I decided to give it a shot because of the reputation of their other products. I haven't been disappointed. The styling of the set is great; sleek, modern and yet fits into our traditional bedroom furniture scheme. The picture quality is also great; we have Cablevision HD service and I find myself watching HD shows that I don't even like because the picture quality is so amazing. Sound is acceptable for a set of this size, about what I expected. I don't use the supplied remote because my cable box has a universal remote.

I initially had trouble getting the proper code for the TV to work with my Scientific Atlanta cable box universal remote, but a quick call to Westinghouse Customer Support (it only took me 3 minutes to get to a live person!) yielded the code [FYI, Cablevision/Scientific Atlanta users, try code 001].

All in all, I am very happy with this purchase and would definitely buy another Westinghouse product.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!!!, December 24, 2005
This review is from: Westinghouse LTV-27W2 27" Widescreen Progressive-Scan LCD TV (Electronics)
Hi,

I'm not the type of person who would write much, but when I read the reviews on this site and other sites for this TV, the choice was clear. YES THIS IS THE ONE.

P.S. I'm now thinking of buying another one to use as a desktop monitor/tv monitor, since it has picture in picture feature. Just imagine that, wow.

PROS

- PRICE is great... at this price... you can go wrong. #1 LCD TV int the US.
- IMAGE is great... LCD TV... flat, smooth, and brite
- LOOK is great... with speakers on the bottom, the image seems larger

CONS

- NONE... some say the remote, but I use my tivo's. so that I may use only one remote for everything.

NOTE : If you have a tivo. use the code 0067 for your LCD TV, since this tv is very modern and the latest. TIVO does not list it on is selection of TVs. USE CODE 0067. That worked for me. I just need to press volume up, before turning the TV on with TIVO.

This set can not do blacks. I have tried everything from brightness, contrast, and backlight adjustments to no avail. The good...

-Picture in HDTV...excellent as expected
-Lack of side speakers (why have MORE width on a 15:9 aspect ratio?)
-Price

The not so good...

-The picture in non HDTV is not good, frankly. My 1 year old 27" tube S@msung (less than 230 bucks) blows away the non-HDTV picture performance of this TV. Not even close.
-Sound quality is poor. Expect to use a seperate external speaker system if you want sound of passable quality. I'm not being picky about this. I haven't had sound quality this poor on any TV I've ever had.

Remember, I have a sample size of one. Maybe others have better functioning units. We plan on keeping this unit, given price and HDTV performance. There is no way this should rate as 5 stars unless you factor in cost.
