4.0 out of 5 stars A Welcomed Surprise...
I have to say I was very wary as many of you might be when it comes to purchasing a product with a company with little to nil track record. But I did my homework. Scanned all the techie forums, read up on it, and decided even with the problems that might occur (most of which can happen to any LCD TV of any brand) I felt it was a safe buy.

And so far it...

And so far it has been. I've had no problems whatsoever. No dead pixels, no white lines or uncentered, all inputs work accordingly. Haven't checked VGA yet because I need a cord but will soon. There is a line on the side but this only shows up when watching NBC in HD. And mainly only noticeable when it's showing standard aspect 4:3 ratio like commercials and what not.

I don't really have the budget to get something high end, but then again there's nothing wrong with this TV, it can easily compare with any other good TV. If you think HD broadcasting looks brilliant wait till you watch upconverted DVDs in 1080i or HD DVDs. I picked up the Toshiba HD-A1 from Amazon as well and that's another smart purchase. I just wish it had another HDMI input so I could hook up the PC via HDMI to DVI. But I'm ok with sticking with VGA just to not have to keep switching cables and only selecting inputs by remote.
I say if you have the cash to spare go for it. And get an extended warranty either way. It's worth it. Obviously if you have more money to spare you'll go with something more well known. But as a regular joe like myself, it definitely met my expectations and more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad little HDTV., September 28, 2006

I really like this TV so far. Good price, good quality, and I have had no real problems with this tv as of yet. I have not seen the white line that the earlier review spoke about or the problem with the centering. To tell you the truth I am not even sure what problem was being described with the centering. Works for me! The only problem I have had is with external speakers, and I am pretty sure that it is actually a case of RTFM with me on that problem. I would reccomend this TV to people looking for a nice 720p HDTV at a reasonable price. Just so you know I am not some stupid guy that doesn't understand technology, I have been in the computer video industry for almost 4 years and have been looking into a lot of HDTV's and settled on this one for now. Next stop, Sony XBR 46" 1080p, waaaahoooooooo!

1.0 out of 5 stars Started out well, ended miserably. Do not buy this TV., August 26, 2009

I was able to pick up this TV for a relatively cheap price from Video Online in Portland, OR. The value was great, the picture quality was entirely tolerable, and I was very happy with this purchase for at least 6 months.

Then the flickering started. It began slow, with the picture 'jumping' a little bit for 5-10 minutes every couple hours. It would return to normal, and then all was fine. Then it began to flicker green pixels in an apparently random pattern, particularly in areas that were dark. Then the 'jumps' became vertical color bars and insane, seizure inducing spectacles of color and light. They started to last for longer and longer - moving from 5-10 minutes up to 20-30 minutes.

There was a period of 4 months where the issue disappeared, and I assumed it must have been something external. My hopes were crushed quite promptly, however, and the problem returned with a vengeance. It got to the point where the TV was given a personality within the house -- "Sorry guys, the TV doesn't want us to watch our movie tonight. Let's try to find something else"

The problem appears to be a manufacturing failure in the power supply. Shoddy worksmanship or poor hardware are most likely the culprit, but overall it's irrelevant. There is a manufacturing error within this TV that causes this issue, and many, many customers are reporting the exact same issue.

Four years after the purchase of this product and 3 1/2 years after the flickering has started, these 'seizures' now last 3-4 hours at a time. Some days they don't show up, some days there's only one, but some days the TV is blacked out for 8-10 hours with only 15 minutes of use in between.

This is unforgivable, and absolutely absurd. Do not buy this TV.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad TV plus poor customer service, July 18, 2007

I definately would not buy this TV again. An entire column of pixels failed on the screen and I now have to live with a permanent verticle black line on my screen (panel). Of course this defect occured one month after the 1 year mfg. warranty ended! I contacted westinghouse customer support and they essentially said that I'm on my own. They suggested that I contact their authorized repair company in Denver ( I live in california) about repairs. The repair company said that Westinghouse will not supply new panels to be used for repairs (something about it's not cost effective for older models). I contacted westinghouse again and presented them with my dillema: for $700, I got a TV that went bad in 13 months. On one hand you won't repair the TV because the warranty has lapsed by one month. On the other hand I can't repair the TV becuase you no longer supply the the part (screen) I need. Needless to say, Westinghouse did nothing to help me out...

1.0 out of 5 stars Badddd TV Don't Purchase, September 4, 2006
This review is from: 27" Westinghouse LTV-27w6 720p Widescreen LCD HDTV - 16:9 1000:1 8ms 1 HDMI ATSC/NTSC Tuners (Black) (Electronics)
This TV is a piece of junk. The TV has a white line on the top of the TV EVERY time you turn it on. The screen has to be 'centered' everytime you turn it on. The westinghouse repair shop isn't too concerned as they say, "Its not the TV, its the signal from the communication companies." Other TV's center your picture, this TV does not! Besides the line on the TV, our TV picture goes 'out of whack' after about 10 minutes and lasts for 3-4 minutes. After 5 calls to Westinghouse they still are coming up with cute fixes and are not willing to authorize the TV back for repair. I would not recommend purchasing anything from Westinghouse! They don't back their products, they are not a proven name in TV's, they build krap and blame it on other operations. My recommendation, stay away from this Poison Oak!! Buy from a responsible company!

1.0 out of 5 stars Low Price = Low Quality + Poor Service, June 21, 2007
This review is from: 27" Westinghouse LTV-27w6 720p Widescreen LCD HDTV - 16:9 1000:1 8ms 1 HDMI ATSC/NTSC Tuners (Black) (Electronics)
I bought this model LCD TV on 9/06 and was pleased with the price and performance. But slowly odd behavior manifested, such as random booting. Then the remote became unresponsive, and the only solution was to switch the TV off/on. Then the remote failed completely, and we couldn't even use the case buttons to power off...we had to pull the plug and restart. A call to Crutchfield (the seller) was made, and a replacement exchange was made in November to my satisfaction.

Well, the replacement unit began its own abnormal behavior within 3 months. It seems to be heat-related, as the screen display will de-stabilize (and become un-viewable) for about 20 minutes after powering on, then clear up after 10-15 minutes. It doesn't matter what the source is (OTH, DVD Player, or computer), the picture goes crazy for approximately the same amount of time.

Called them again, but Crutchfield won't provide a second exchange.

Calling Customer "Service" at Westinghouse, they suggested relocating the TV to a different circuit in the house, stating that "these units are very sensitive to electrical current fluctuations". Well, I tried to relocate the TV throughout the house with No Joy. I purchased a dedicated UPS/Line Conditioner...no luck. Attempts to improve the cooling resulted in no noticeable changes. After these trails, Westinghouse suggested factory-authorized repair (at my cost to ship). A quick Google reveals many horror stories related to people's experiences with Westinghouse's repairs (or lack of completing them). Sorry, I'm not going to spend any more time (except to warn others) or money on this sorry excuse for a television. What else am I to do...move out of my 2-year old home to accommodate a "sensitive" TV? None of the other electronics in my home have any problems.

Every night, the wife gets a garbled-screen reminder of how I made a bad choice in trusting Crutchfield and Westinghouse. And despite being a bona-fide Geek, I find it very disturbing to be woken up in the middle of the night by the TV having switched itself on.

I cannot believe that Crutchfield still sells this, and any other model, from Westinghouse. I will no longer be purchasing from Crutchfield, as they can no longer be trusted.

The Westinghouse brand name has been subverted...please stay away from it!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 27" Westinghouse LTV-27w6 720p Widescreen LCD HDTV - 16:9 1000:1 8ms 1 HDMI ATSC/NTSC Tuners (Black) (Electronics)
I had a problem with this purchase, but Amazon has lived up to keeping this customer a very happy shopper. I will keep coming back to shop. As for the item in question I would have been able to give it a rating if it had worked I had sound, but no picture so I don't have an opinion.I would have liked to know that this was a older unit with quite some age on it. If I had known this I would not have purchased it. the item is on its way back to the seller. I have, however made a lot of purchases through the Amazon web pages that I am very pleased with thank you.

but on the fifth day, it started acting up. First many bars down the canter. After I unplugged it to try and re-boot it, I got "only" one bar. Talked to Best Buy, and they said "it happens", and that I was lucky it was w/in the 14-day exchange period. Lucky me. What will happen with the next one on day 15, I wonder?

I have had this tv for two years and have had absolutely no problems with it. In fact, I briefly hooked it up to one of my computers when the monitor failed. I wouldnt give it high marks as a monitor but it worked in a pinch. But as for its' use as a tv... works great.
