Great combo unit with few compromises,

This review is from: Westinghouse LTV32W4 32-Inch LCD HDTV With Built-In DVD Player (Electronics)
A few weeks ago I bought the Westinghouse 32w4hdr from a local store. It is the 32" LCD with integrated DVD. It is now proudly displayed on my bedroom wall on a cantilever mount.
We watch a little bit of regular tv over cable, and picture is pretty good on that you can tell which channels do not broadcast in as high of quality as the others, but overall picture is pretty good. However after a recent storm the cable was degraded and this tv really showed the defects moreso than other tv's in the house. The cable has since been fixed and all is good. The majority of our watching habits on this TV are DVD's and the quality through the integrated DVD player is FANTASTIC. Granted it is not quite on par with the $5000 Pioneer PDP-5060 that an acquantance has in their home, but it is at least as good if not better (other than the black level) than my Hitachi 46" RPTV that I use for my main screen. The only real complaint i can think of is is a minor annoyance (although getting more perturbing every day) with the set. Every time I pop in a dvd it defaults to english subtitles. However, I am fortunate enough to still have my hearing and the movies I watch are in english to start with. It only takes a few steps to disable this through the menu on the TV but it woudl be much more convenient to simply have them off. Another thing to be aware of is if you wall mount it and angle it downwards be ready to catch the dvd when you hit the eject button. The slot load dvd player can eject with enough force to spit it out and onto the floor. Since our TV is mounted 10 ft up the wall it is angled down about 20-30 degrees to have a more direct line of sight to our bed, so that may contribute to it. Overall I am very pleased with the set and there is not much out there in the way of competition. Most combo units are 15-20" tv's and with as high up on the wall ours was, the 15" we started with was simply not big enough.

Good product, but has a glitch or two,

I love the look of the unit. The picture is great and the built-in DVD player is simple to use. However, if your cable provider uses channel 1 for anything (we have a local station that does a continuous loop of the latest news broadcast on 1) this set will not tune it. Every other TV with an electronic tuner I've ever owned can tune channel 1. Volume level is inconsistant when switching between TV and DVD. Comfortable DVD sound level will blast you out on TV.

Great Idea, but Poor Execution,

I first bought this TV as an open box item, because there were none in stock. I used it for two days and then it developed horizontal lines and a shadow effect in the picture. I took it back and bought another one, which had never been used. It has really bad color quality in the TV portion and a buzzing sound on one of the speakers. I plan to return it also. Too bad, because I love the operational ease of the DVD player - and not having to have an additional piece of equipment.
