Great combo unit with few compromises,

This review is from: Westinghouse LTV32W4 32-Inch LCD HDTV With Built-In DVD Player (Electronics)
A few weeks ago I bought the Westinghouse 32w4hdr from a local store. It is the 32" LCD with integrated DVD. It is now proudly displayed on my bedroom wall on a cantilever mount.
We watch a little bit of regular tv over cable, and picture is pretty good on that you can tell which channels do not broadcast in as high of quality as the others, but overall picture is pretty good. However after a recent storm the cable was degraded and this tv really showed the defects moreso than other tv's in the house. The cable has since been fixed and all is good. The majority of our watching habits on this TV are DVD's and the quality through the integrated DVD player is FANTASTIC. Granted it is not quite on par with the $5000 Pioneer PDP-5060 that an acquantance has in their home, but it is at least as good if not better (other than the black level) than my Hitachi 46" RPTV that I use for my main screen. The only real complaint i can think of is is a minor annoyance (although getting more perturbing every day) with the set. Every time I pop in a dvd it defaults to english subtitles. However, I am fortunate enough to still have my hearing and the movies I watch are in english to start with. It only takes a few steps to disable this through the menu on the TV but it woudl be much more convenient to simply have them off. Another thing to be aware of is if you wall mount it and angle it downwards be ready to catch the dvd when you hit the eject button. The slot load dvd player can eject with enough force to spit it out and onto the floor. Since our TV is mounted 10 ft up the wall it is angled down about 20-30 degrees to have a more direct line of sight to our bed, so that may contribute to it. Overall I am very pleased with the set and there is not much out there in the way of competition. Most combo units are 15-20" tv's and with as high up on the wall ours was, the 15" we started with was simply not big enough.

Good product, but has a glitch or two,

I love the look of the unit. The picture is great and the built-in DVD player is simple to use. However, if your cable provider uses channel 1 for anything (we have a local station that does a continuous loop of the latest news broadcast on 1) this set will not tune it. Every other TV with an electronic tuner I've ever owned can tune channel 1. Volume level is inconsistant when switching between TV and DVD. Comfortable DVD sound level will blast you out on TV.

Great Idea, but Poor Execution,

I first bought this TV as an open box item, because there were none in stock. I used it for two days and then it developed horizontal lines and a shadow effect in the picture. I took it back and bought another one, which had never been used. It has really bad color quality in the TV portion and a buzzing sound on one of the speakers. I plan to return it also. Too bad, because I love the operational ease of the DVD player - and not having to have an additional piece of equipment.

Bang for the price but alot of minor issues along with poor customer service.,
This review is from: Westinghouse LTV32W4 32-Inch LCD HDTV With Built-In DVD Player (Electronics)
The picture quality is average and intergating DVD is space saver feature. Just as another post pertaining to the speaker settings has to be reset everytime the TV is turn on. The PIP/POP is only limited to one screen side for only DVD or cable. It is unable to have both sides running cable. The DVD always defualts to auto play and english subtitles. The pause feature only pauses for 30 sec before it continues to play on. Also, the speaker setting must be changed again when going from cable to DVD. The speaker are starting to crackle after having the TV for only 3 months. All the minor issues can be resolved by getting a firmware upgrade but, this was told to me to from the manufacture. I have waited over 3 months and still have not recieved the firmware upgrade. Westinghouse has probably one of the worst customer support by always giving very vague answer like not giving any specific dates. My favor answer is someone will call you in a timely manner and wait over a week and I have to make the call. If you don't mind these types of annoyance and looking for reasonable price LCD this would be one.

Good picture but a poor product.,

I've had mine for well over a year now. I bought it to use in a bedroom and it had a lot of good features at a reasonable price. Having an integrated HD tuner and DVD player was a very good fit for this location. The LCD picture is as good or better than many. From there it goes downhill though. The speakers have very poor sound quality and volume levels change drastically with different input selections. Watching DVD at a nice volume level and then switching to TV will blast you out of the room because the TV sound level will be so much greater. In fact, I spend most of my time watching TV with the volume at the very lowest available levels. The DVD player usually makes quite a lot of humming/vibrating noise when there is a DVD loaded which is very annoying. Sometimes this can be taken care of by ejecting/reloading the DVD until it finally settles in and runs quiet. Also, every time a new movie is loaded it plays with English subtitles and has to be manually turned off in the menu.
So, overall the decent picture quality of this LCD is overshadowed by its many weaknesses that become more annoying the longer I live with it. I would not recommend this TV and will upgrade my own to something better soon.

Not happy,
This review is from: Westinghouse LTV32W4 32-Inch LCD HDTV With Built-In DVD Player (Electronics)
I bought this TV as a replacement for my Sony CRT with price as a primary consideration. I got what I paid for. I had it less than a week when I had to contact Westinghouse customer service due to a corrupted display. They had me do a soft reset. I had to do many more such resets to recover the display over the next 6 months. After 6 months, the display developed a line across the middle. The TV has now been with Westinghouse for a month to be repaired under warranty - "awaiting parts" I'm told. I'm not impressed and would not recommend this TV.

We picked this television up several weeks ago and have been pleased with the picture quality and ease of use. This television has the same or better picture quality than most of the televisions selling for twice the cost. We enjoy the integrated DVD and our 9 year old can easily operate this television.
The only complaint we have is that the remote is pretty weak. Unless you have a straight shot at the television from within 10 feet, it has trouble picking up the signal. Other than that, I can't imagine picking up a television with this level of picture quality for less money. I would give it 5 stars if it were not for the remote.

Well, I bought this TV 3 months ago. First it seems very good equipment and with a great brand. Now I figured out it's not. I live outside US so Westinghouse is not in my country (Venezuela), and the DVD is not working properly. When you insert a CD/DVD, the screen just goes crazy and shows like half the DVD (in bad resolution) and half the freezing of what you have been seeing before. It was so bad! Piece of junk this TV.

This TV has a great picture and has given me no problems. Additional HDMI connections would be a major plus to this already good value TV
