I used this kit to hardwire an IKEA Knappa lampshade. Normally this lamp only comes as a plug in lamp. The kit fit the mounting bracket perfectly.

I was glad to find that both the canopy assembly and the fixture are grounded properly, and the kit is UL certified.

Installation is simple and gives a very secure fitting to the ceiling. My install was to a vaulted ceiling and the end result looks great. Everything is snug and solid.

You can also get this kit in Nickel, Bronze and Brass.

We have 2 of these (the one purchased through Amazon was less expensive) for old glass cone shades with 2 1/4" fitters. The design is clean and simple, making for an elegant modern presentation. You should be confident with do-it-yourself electrical wiring though if you want to install it yourself. My one quibble with it is that both the shades hang slightly angled. I am not sure whether this is due to the shades themselves or to the design of the pendant. There aren't many other choices out there though.

Thanks to A. Gornick for the review and suggestion of using this kit for the Ikea Knappa lamp. I went with the nickel version. The kit replaces the cord that ships with the lamp. It looks good. I'm giving it 4 starts instead of 5 because there is a small screw in the canopy that allows one to change the length of the cable (shortening it, basically, which will require cutting off some of the excess). The screw requires a special tool similar to an Allen wrench. This was not included with the kit.

This was my first attempt to DIY with lighting & I'd like to say I did pretty good, I'd probably do better next time. Step by step instructions for a newbie like me didn't work though, had to go on the DIY website to figure things out. I had to cut pretty much half of the cord in order to get what I wanted length wise. Also had to strip all 3 of the wires.

PLEASE NOTE, if you are new at putting up a fixture you'll need some wire cutters and a wire stripper, it actually made this process pretty quick.

I gave this 4/5 because I think I was missing something. on the box it shows the hardware included and the only thing I didn't have was this white ring, which I still need in order to finish putting up this pendant.

I bought this to go with a beautiful modern Artecnica light/shade (the Icarus), and now I'm buying another for my Artecnica Future Flora Laure light. It's perfect - simple, clean, and fades into the background so the shade can shine.

As for hanging slightly angled, you may have to bend the wire back and forth a bit to get the kinks out from packaging/shipping.

We ordered this kit specifically to replace our ceiling fan with an IKEA Knappa pendant light in our nursery. The pendant light had to be customized for a ceiling installation and this kit worked perfectly. Shipping from the seller was a bit slow, but we were in no hurry so it was fine.

I appreciate A. Gornick's previous review and suggestion to use this kit with the shade portion of the Ikea Knappa lamp. Installation went quite smoothly. A couple of comments:

- Fulana de Tal mentions that the set screw in the canopy required a special tool in order to loosen it. (Typically something one would do when shortening the cord.) Manufacturing may have changed the set screw since his/her purchase: I was able to adjust it using a small flat blade screwdriver.

- I live in an old 1950s house, and the electrical box we mounted to seemed like it was of smaller diameter than the modern ones. The end result was that the mounting bar was wider than the electrical box. This in turn meant that for the ceiling canopy to mount flush without the mounting screws protruding, we had to go buy shorter mounting screws. (The mounting screws I'm referring to are the ones which go through the mounting bar and the canopy, and whose ends are covered by small decorative nuts. I'm NOT referring to the screws used to secure the mounting bar to the electrical box.) If this happens to you, try purchasing a couple of 8-32 x 1" screws as replacements.

- Another reviewer mentioned that shades hang slightly angled with this fixture. For whatever reason, we haven't seen this problem when combining the Knappa shade with this fixture.

The kit looks actually very nice -- when I ordered, I had feared that it would be made of plastic, but that was not the case. I was pleasantly surprised.

This is a simple and modern fixture, and just what I needed to create a custom light fixture using a paper lantern.

My intention for this pendant kit was to dismantle it and re-wire it to convert an IKEA fixture from a plug-in type to a hardwired type fixture. This pendant kit was easy to dismantle and reassemble. It installed easily to my ceiling junction box. I felt the metal ceiling shroud piece was very fragile, light gauge metal that bent and dented easily during both my dismantling and installation. It bent back into shape though and worked out fine. The ceiling shroud styling could be a little cleaner and more contemporary looking. If you're looking for something with really clean modern lines, check out West Elm - but be prepared to pay more, and I'm not sure if it would be as universal as this was. Great price, shipped quickly, and dismantled well - great for my purposes!
