Some of the food in my Whirlpool freezer was starting to thaw out some. After spending a week and a half troubleshooting I suspected that the defrost timer went out after only 1.5 years of service. I thought that was odd but I did find a service bulletin from Whirlpool that instructed repair folks to go ahead and replace this timer whether it was functioning or not on several models including mine (EV160NZTQ02). Obviously, there was an issue with certain defrost timers.

The official Whirlpool timer was about $50. I honestly didn't mind paying $50, if I was 100% for certain that my problem was the defrost timer. Unfortunately I wasn't 100% for certain it was the defrost time, plus I wanted to save some money. I figured I'd try this timer out and if it was something else instead of the defrost timer then I wouldn't be out too much. Also, the original timer ran on 12 hour cycle but I decided I wanted the defrost cycle to kick on at 8 hours of compressor use. After digging around, I discovered other folks wanted to use a 8-hour timer as well and found the this part was recommended for my freezer as being compatible.

Once I figured out where the timer was located on my Whirlpool freezer (literally the last place I looked in the back), the swap took less than 10 minutes. It was super easy! All I had to do was loosen two small bolts, unplug the wires and reverse the process with the new timer.

Also, I purchase mine from "partshousesupply". I received the timer quickly and it was in new packaging as a ERP (Exact Replacement Parts) brand. I've had no issues with it after about three months of use.

After going through a process of elimination to find the culprit that was causing my refrigerator problems, I came to the conclusion that I either needed a defrost thermostat or a defrost timer. I decided to purchase both from Amazon for less than $30 total even though I was 90% certain it was this item (defrost thermostat). Anyways, the installation was easy with the help of my refrigerator's parts diagram I found on the web.

I saved literally hundreds fixing my 5 year old Frigidaire myself and it should be good-to-go for at least another 5 more years! I'll keep it at 'medium' temperature instead of super cold and hopefully it will not die out so quickly this time around.

My fridge was not working as its freezer was not cooling at all. My troubleshooting pinpointed the fault with the timer. Got this timer from Amazon and it needed 10 minutes to install and viola the fridge was working perfect. I had ordered a defrost thermostat just in case that it too required replacement but after replacing the timer the fridge was fine so I didn't replace the defrost thermostat.

Defrost timer went out on my 'beer' fridge.

I searched the part by refrigerator model number and it was going to cost over $40.

I did an Amazon search for 'defrost timer' and sorted by price.

Checked the amps, volts & hertz and figured that this should be close enough. I liked this price a lot better.

Works fine on my fridge.

I could not believe the price on this part! I narrowed the problem on my old fridge down to 2 possible defective components and decided to replace them both because they were so cheap. The fridge works great now and I am very happy that I did not have to spend tons of money on expensive parts like fancy new fridges use.

Works absolutely the same as the original part at a fraction of the cost of a factory replacement! just removed the screws unplugged the old unit, connected this part and reattached it. Saved me a service call or worse a new refrigerator.
