Great TV, But Suffers from Lip Sync Problem,
By
This review is from: Westinghouse SK-26H520S 26-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
Westinghouse SK-26H520S 26" LCD HDTV
First, I love this television. The screen is beautiful, and there are a ton of inputs (2xHDMI, 2xComponent, VGA, and more!). The tech support team in Maine is top notch and very friendly. The problem is the lip sync. I've seen it with component cabling and standard video inputs. It doesn't seem as bad when I watch my DVD's via HDMI cabling. I bought this unit at Sam's Club in Tallahassee and have already returned one unit only to discover the second one does it as well. I've got another week before I have to return it, and I'm still not sure what we're gonna do. Great screen for an awesome price ($480 here), but the lip sync issue is a true pain to endure. Without the lip sync problem, I'd give this TV FIVE STARS, but TWO is as much as I can rate it for now. For what it's worth, Westinghouse support says that not all the units have this problem. I guess it's time for me to take it back and try Number Three.

Fix for Audio/Video sync issue,
By Shawn McCullough (Illinois) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Westinghouse SK-26H520S 26-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
Like many others, I had the problem where my audio would become out of sync with my video. The good news is that I have found a solution.
The issue is related to the firmware on the TV, which can be updated by the user from the comfort of their own home. Go to http://www.westinghousedigital.com/firmware.aspx and enter your serial number to get the newest firmware and follow the instructions to update (you may need to register your product first). It is as simple as loading the firmware onto a flash drive and plugging it into the TV. The problem was frustrating but the amazing picture quality and the user upgradeable firmware warrants this product 5 stars.

Great,,.minus the lip sync,
This review is from: Westinghouse SK-26H520S 26-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
This is a very good TV with one problem. The Lip Sync is terrible. The picture is beautiful and it is very easy to deal with. But the Lip Sync keeps this from being a great TV. It is painful to watch as you can easily see that it is off. Three stars for the lip sync.

The fix changes everything!!!!,

The firmware fix available on the company website changes everything. I enjoyed the T.V. which I bought as a refurb during the 3 month trial period. It only had the occasional lip sync. However, after the 3 month trial ended the T.V. audio problems worsened and I was worried I was duped. However, I found the review that mentioned the firmware update and its been nearly 2 weeks and the firmware update has removed all audio issues I have had with the T.V. The instructions on the Westinghouse website are easy to follow but fail to mention that the type of flash drive used may result in your T.V. not registering the update. I had to use 3 different flash drives before it finally registered the update. Other than that the T.V. is great with amazing video quality and well worth the price!!!!

Use HDMI connector only,

For those with lip sync issues use an HDMI connection. I use HDMI exclusively for HD cable and from an upconverting DVD player. No issues whatsoever when I use HDMI.
You will notice that over the air HD doesn't have a lip sync problem. The only other issue is that this screen doesn't support HDCP. So I am not sure how well it would work with HDCP encrypted HDMI sources.. e.g. BlueRay or HD-DVD.. Then again 720p is good enough for most HD content for this screen size / resolution.

Avoid Westinghouse! Buyers beware!,

This review is from: Westinghouse SK-26H520S 26-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
My whole family and I thought we were going crazy when we first started noticing the audio wasn't synced with the video. We originally thought it was the cable hook-up, and the cable service came out twice to replace the box. The sync was STILL off! So finally we came to the conclusion that it was our beautiful new TV. The picture is fantastic, but sadly the non-synced audio and video can drive one insane. After reading tons of negative reviews on various websites, we were relieved to know we were not alone.
We're exchanging it at the store later today for something different.

This is my 3rd HDTV and I've owned a Samsung and a Vizio branded LCD TV. I decided to downsize since 32" was a little too big for the bedroom and this fit the bill. I had to do some color calibrations since the out of the box picture wasn't all that great. I also had to re-do the calibrations since the firmware update is a MUST to clear off the SD audio/video lag. Not sure what audio issues some users are experiencing because I hear no buzzing with mine. No dead pixels either but usually that's a function of the (un)luck of the draw. TV could've used more silver highlights around the casing or make the bezel shinier to make it look more appealing. The picture does speak for itself however. Pretty great value for the price that's for sure. Big pros are lots of connectivity options and a pretty good TV tuner. My main complaint is that it's not as bright as the other 2 TV's that I've owned.

Breaks after 2-3 years,

This review is from: Westinghouse SK-26H520S 26-Inch LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I bought this tv in january of 2008 and september 25th of 2010 it has now broken. If i turn it on with the remote or go up to the tv and press the on button on that it still will not turn on axcept for the blue light on the bottom of the TV which is just to show that your TV is on but its not on. I would not buy this because the production quality of this TV is horrible, I have a TV from 1998 that still works and this LCD HDTV can't even out last a 10 inch TV from 1998. Just save your money and buy a TV that is worth the money you are gonna spend.
