I bought this product as a replacement for another item I purchase for under-counter lighting in my trailer (for my kids to be able to use in the evening hours).

Perhaps it might have worked well, but upon receipt it lit up very dim and there was something significantly loose inside, most likely caused by shipping.

In fairness, I'd like to make two points clear:

1. Neither Amazon nor the manufacturer should be held accountable towards my gripes, as it could have been the shipping company who knocked it around so bad, that something broke loose, causing both the noise and lack of illumination.

2. Though it didn't work for me, it appeared to be very well constructed, with not only the ability to take batteries, but (and this had me really excited at first) a 12-volt AC adapter jack...one of a very common size...for making this externally powered (like through the power system of the trailer).

I'm betting that this is a great product for it's purpose, but after being burned twice on two separate and distinct 12-volt florescent lighting fixtures, I opted for a refund and not an exchange. In fact, just today I'm looking at LED lighting to avoid the whole issue of bulbs, heat, and loose connections...but that's another story.

So take this review with a grain of salt, because it might work perfectly for you. The only thing I would advise (based on another product very similar to this but NOT this product), is to ensure that it is guaranteed to work for 4 months or more.

If after 3 months the thing dies because your kids played checkers every weekend this past summer, you're gonna kick yourself for not listening to me. But, if it works for you, hey, I'm happy!

I bought two of these and hardly used them when one started flickering and stopped working within a few days. The other lasted about a month before it started flickering as well. I changed the batteries but it doesn't help. Also the battery casing latch broke off one of them because of the shoddy construction. They take 8 AA batteries each, so either they're flying through tons of batteries at an incredibly ridiculous rate, or they're cheaply made crap.
