4.0 out of 5 stars Less yelling around the house
We bought 6 of these for our house for use as an intercom system. We did not buy or use a wireless doorbell. They work very well. You can give 5 rooms their own button/channel. You can call each room individually or all at the same time. They have eliminated having to yell up the stairs for our kids. The intercom has helped with getting the kids up and moving in the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Caution - this is not a complete intercom system
This is an add-on unit that is only compatable with WHI-5C, which apparently Westinghouse is discontinuing (although they did have some remaining when I called). The unit works on radio waves, so I am told it will not have the house-wiring issues some units have.

My issue with this is that the description is not clear that this is only an add-on unit - you...

4.0 out of 5 stars Less yelling around the house, January 15, 2006
This review is from: Westinghouse WHI-5S Additional Doorbell Module (Office Product)
We bought 6 of these for our house for use as an intercom system. We did not buy or use a wireless doorbell. They work very well. You can give 5 rooms their own button/channel. You can call each room individually or all at the same time. They have eliminated having to yell up the stairs for our kids. The intercom has helped with getting the kids up and moving in the morning for school, quieting them down when they get too loud or just calling them down for dinner.

The only negative is that there is some static and bleedthrough across channels if the units are placed too close together, as in against the same adjacent wall.

They were very easy to set up after reading the instructions and give you 5 channels/buttons instead of the 4 offered by another intercom I considered buying. However, you need to program each unit unlike the other that can program each unit automatically, but it was pretty easy and quick.

We really like these units, but the bit of static knocked them down one star to 4 out of 5.

This is an add-on unit that is only compatable with WHI-5C, which apparently Westinghouse is discontinuing (although they did have some remaining when I called). The unit works on radio waves, so I am told it will not have the house-wiring issues some units have.

My issue with this is that the description is not clear that this is only an add-on unit - you have to buy additional units for any other locations you want to talk to. When it arrived I opened the box and found only the control unit pictured, with no other intercoms for it to speak with, so I had to call Westinghouse, which is when I was informed that it was being discontinued, and was not compatible with the other expansion units you will find on their website (the 2, 3, or 4 channel wireless).

1.0 out of 5 stars Do your research, September 14, 2007
This review is from: Westinghouse WHI-5S Additional Doorbell Module (Office Product)
We tested this intercom in our home & at our church: had loud squeals, humms, and too much static to make out the person on the other end of the line regardless of frequency, channel, position, or location. After further research we learned that this is typical of wireless intercoms - will try a hard wired version next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple effective wireless doorbell system, June 12, 2007
This review is from: Westinghouse WHI-5S Additional Doorbell Module (Office Product)
We had a doorbell that functioned through our phones. So when the phones went we needed a replacement. This Westinghouse system required no rewiring. Just add the doorbell unit at the front door to the existing wiring and then place the doorbell modules (as many as you need) in the rooms where you need them. Also has an intercom feature which was not necessary for us but can be handy.
