I've been using it for zucchini, carrots, potatoes and cucumbers.

I also tried it on cucumbers because this is the only other vegetable or fruit that I had in the house and the cucumber "noodles" were great.

This is a side-by-side comparison of ten "Spiralizer" products: Brieftons Tri-Blade Vegetable Slicer, Crafty Kitchen Tri Blade Vegetable Slicer, Kitchen Basics Tri-Blade Turning Spiral Slicer, Westmark 3-in-1 Fruit and Vegetable Slicer, Paderno World Cuisine Four Blade Spiralizer, New and Essential Spiralizer Tri-Blade Spiral Vegetable Slicer, Pacific-V Spiralizer Tri-Blade Spiral Vegetable Slicer, Palermo Spiralizer Spiral Vegetable Slicer, Paderno World Cuisine Tri-Blade Spiral Plastic Spiral Vegetable Slicer, and Bitoni Spiralizer Tri-Blade Vegetable Slicer.

I was given all of these products to test and evaluate. My review of all of them is objective and was not influenced by the fact that they were supplied to me without cost. They are:

I adore trying out any new kitchen items and the Westmark was just in time because the veggie season has started. I've been picking up the first of the season vegetables from my CSA and have been trying out this slicer. I had a couple of spiral slicer before, but they work so well and are so popular, they are disappearing from my house. They are ultra-intuitive to work with and the only cautionary note it to watch out for those blades. The blades are covered and stored in the body of the Westmark Spiromat.

I'm into kitchen collectibles and gizmos and am always interested in trying out new things. This Spiromat is actually a rather retro concept and has those awesome touches of red I love. If you remember things like the old Whopper Chopper and the like, you enjoy experimenting with this slicer. It's very lightweight and self-contained. It's a four-legged critter and depending on what type of counter you have will or will not adhere well with the suction cup feet. It's not really a bother because simple downward pressure will hold it down, unlike a manual juicer that takes a lot of arm wrestling.

However, the retro concept stops there. Those food choppers were a total waste of money and energy. The Westmark slicer works amazingly well and is patterned after a much more expensive slicer. I say "patterned," but in reality it looks quite a bit like the other one. Acts like it too. Operation is practically intuitive, but there are visuals on the side of the box that show you which blades to use. It is a bit shorter than some other spiral slicers and the handle isn't quite as fragile.

FEATURES:

► This simple-to-use machine produces spiral cuts, shoestrings and vegetable "noodles" for adding new texture to pasta dishes, stir-fries and salads.

No star rating but decided to take a chance, glad I did. The suction feet held down the machine firmly. The machine is a sturdy gauge plastic, but the blades are stainless steel.2 blades slide into the side for holding, and the 3rd stays in the machine.I have only used the medium blade on a zucchini and it was just as shown in the video below (which has no sound but the pictures tell it all). The zucchini was one continuous spiral strand. There was a small center core about 1 inch and small back piece at the end which the video also shows. It is easy to slide the crank handle and veggie holder for different veggie lengths. Super easy to clean. Delivery date was spot on and packaged well.

This is a well-made kitchen appliance that works intuitively and produces beautiful spirals of firm vegetables or fruits.

It has four suction feet to keep it in place on the counter, three slicing blade trays, and a sliding crank with teeth that grip and turn the vegetable, along with a handle that can be used to apply the pressure. There is a choice of thin or medium spirals or wide disk-like spirals. The trays store underneath the sliding platform.

I get excellent results with firmer vegetables and fruits such as squash, cucumber, mangoes, carrots, potatoes, and apples. As would be expected, it doesn't do very well with mushy foods, such as tomatoes, bananas, or over-ripe mangoes. Foods with a wide diameter work better than smaller ones, so get big carrots to use with this slicer and then use a third of the bottom end for something else. A 3/8 in. core is also left after slicing, but I usually just eat those.

The spirals are beautiful and really do transform a salad into something special. This may also be a non-deceptive or confrontational way to get youngsters to eat more vegetables. The blades are very sharp and some are tooth-like, so children should not use this slicer without adult assistance.

The product has a two-year warranty, which doesn't surprise me, as it is so well-made. It ships in frustration-free packaging.
