4.0 out of 5 stars Marvellous, and here is how to get it to work
It really is a wonderful thing to watch, very inspiring,(i was actually inspired to buy this by the amazing film 'Invincible' with Tim Roth, and the beautiful large tanks full of jellyfish he ponders on in the movie)... even though they could have made the jellyfish perhaps a bit more complicated, less mushroom-like... but anyway, it still is an addictive thing to...

Do not waste your time with this. As other reviewers pointed out, it does take a while (and a ton of liquid soap) to get the fake jelly fish to "swim" and not float to the top. The internal mechanism involves puffs of air to mix the water about and that simulates the fish moving on their own. The mechanism is noticeable and not completely quiet. If you run this at night,...

It really is a wonderful thing to watch, very inspiring,(i was actually inspired to buy this by the amazing film 'Invincible' with Tim Roth, and the beautiful large tanks full of jellyfish he ponders on in the movie)... even though they could have made the jellyfish perhaps a bit more complicated, less mushroom-like... but anyway, it still is an addictive thing to watch...

Like many people, I was initially tortured by the little airbubbles that kept them afloat the tank, and which kept them from dancing and floating around the tank, like they should do.

Here are the rules to follow:

1) Absolutely no normal tap water. ONLY 100% pure distilled water. I initally tried a mixture of tap and distilled water, as I didnt think the tank would need so much water. But after hours of torturous trying to get rid of tiny bubbles, I discarded my mixture and went back to the shop to buy a big 5 litre bottle of distilled water.

2) Fill the tank with some distilled water mixed with a squirt (not just 'a few drops')of Palmolive. Soak the creatures in this so they are completely covered with it... I call it marinating them...

3) Remove jellyfish temporarily, and rest them, for example on a sponge or towel, then discard the water from the tank and then slowly and carefully fill the tank with pure distilled water, letting it run from the bottle down one of the sides of the tank, so to put as little air into the water as possible. When the tank is full, add, again, not just 'a few drops' but a nice squirt of Palmolive to the water and stir arond very gently... dont worry, there won't be any foam in the end, even when the system is running... On the contrary, the washing up liquid keeps the water nice and oily, without any little bubbles forming

4) gently place the jellyfish into the water by putting them in 'cup first', ie. let the inside of their tops become filled with water so they sink to the bottom upside down... use the end of a wooden spoon or other blunt intrument to swirl them around until all air bubbles have left them, if there are any. At any time, if there are airbubbles, simply take the jellyfish out and repeat the process.

5) Slowly place the top onto the tank and then connect tank to electricity. Start the system. If after a while, Jellyfish keep floating at the top, switch off and unplug, remove them and then re-submerge them again.. also make sure you 'wipe' off any airbubbles sticking to the inside of the tank, use a blunt instrument, like a wooden stick or plastic spoon. Before you go to the next step, make sure they have floated around for a few hours and have had a good night's rest with the system thoroughly switched off and unplugged

6) if on the next day you see them or one of them floating at the top (which they shouldnt do when electricity is switched off), take them out again carefully and place on a towel, then add an extra bit of Palmolive to the water and stir, then carefully place jellyfish inside, again letting their tops fill themselves with water so they sink down, you can use a wooden stick for that. Start system, and they should now move around the tank beautifully, with not a single tiny bubble ever forming on their tentacles or inside their tops. When the system is switched off, they should all be at the bottom, naturally.

I really think the secret is, ultimately, pure distilled water and definitely more washing-up liquid to the water than suggested in the instructions, but again, before increasing the amount yet again, do give them a nights rest. Of course you mustn't use any fancy stuff such as washing up liquid with oils etc, just normal palmolive, green or blue is perfect..

this is actually a mood lamp but i found it to be very entertaining and relaxing. all the jellyfish move around and the motor water pump thing is completely silent. ive heard complaints about air bubbles clinging to the jellyfish and keeping them afloat. the trick is to submerge them for a while, let the bubbles settle, then take them out of the water and put them back in. i never had a single air bubble ruin this product. very enjoyable to watch.

If you run this at night, you can hear it whirring along. However, the tank leaked the first day I operated the thing. The leak was somewhere inside the tank and water dripped out of the bottom; poorly constructed and not worth the money. Save your time and money and pass this one up.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's gorgeous, but it's a gamble whether or not it will work right., December 26, 2008

I've read reviews on here that say that the pump on this object is silent. It is far from it. It cycles on and off every few seconds, and when it turns on its extremely loud. I spoke to the manufacturer (not the seller) about this and they sent me a second one for no charge because of the first being SO LOUD. The second worked great for about three minutes, it was nice and quiet, then it started grinding and being very loud like the first. It's unfortunate because it is a very beautiful and calming sight watching the jellyfish swim around, but neither of the tanks I received worked right. They are far too loud to sleep next to and annoyingly loud in any environment that's quiet.

However I did get my jellyfish to cycle right, if you're wondering how to do that here's how I did it:
The product recommends that you use distilled water. I used municipal city water and there were lots of air bubbles in the container. I read another customers review so I soaked the jellyfish in a glass of water for about an hour and constantly poked them around to get the air bubbles off of them. I filled the tank, then put the jellies in. They eventually caught more air bubbles as the water in the container distiled. It took about six hours to finally get all the air bubbles out. I tapped the container a bit to get the air bubbles off the walls. I then turned it on, prodded the the jellyfish a little through the lid with a small instrument (to flip them over and get any remaining air bubbles from them) and sure enough they were swimming well. In fact it worked even better the following day as all the bubbles were completely gone. Too bad it grew louder every day until becoming unbearable.
It was such an awesome gift I'm just extremely disappointed that it's unbearably loud.

I PURCHASED THIS ITEM, BECAUSE I THOUGHT THIS WOULD BE VERY ENTERTAINING FOR MY KIDS. I'M GLAD I PURCHASED IT. I FOLLOWED CRISTOBALS EXTENSIVE DIRECTIONS AND IT WORKED ON THE FIRST TRY. YOU NEED TO SQUIRT ALOT OF DISHSOAP IN ORDER TO WORK. THE JELLYFISH LOOK SO COOL WITH THE MOOD LIGHTS GOING. VERY RELAXING, IN FACT I'M GOING TO PURCHASE TWO MORE. FOLLOW CRISTOBALS INSTRUCTIONS AND IT WILL WORK. I KNOW.

2.0 out of 5 stars I agree.. beautiful but worked for only a short time: too loud, January 30, 2009
This review is from: Swimming Jellyfish Aquarium (Toy)
I'm here online because I was about to order another one of these (until I read the reviews) because my son got one for christmas and loved, loved, loved it. I felt so bad for him when the motor started getting VERY loud. I could not fix it. Since it was a gift, I didn't know who to call or go to... so I was about to order another one for him but I see a lot of other people have had the same problem. It's too bad.

2.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful to see but..., January 27, 2009

This review is from: Swimming Jellyfish Aquarium (Toy)
First of all, the product I received is not the same in the photo showed here. That was disappointing. I have not problem with bubbles or things like that: my jellyfish began to swim inmediately! But...soon I noticed that some water from the tank was slowly dripping out of the bottom of the tank!!(I read the same problem in other review) That was disappointing again.. At first, the tank worked very well and was very silent but some minutes later it began to make a really loud and fastidious sound!! I think I won't be able to sleep with this in the same room.. That was very disappointing again.. It is a pity because the jellyfish are very cute to see. I regret having bought this product because of the loud sound I prefer to keep it off!! Thank you for reading.

This product is great. It is really neat to look at and the jellyfish have a life like look to them. If you are thinking about getting this, you should.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could be too early to tell, December 26, 2008
This review is from: Swimming Jellyfish Aquarium (Toy)
This gift for our eight year old son was not a ready out of the box adventure. The little jellyfish have yet to swim around, but it's possible we still need to wait for all the air bubbles to dissipate. The jury is out on this one. (It is much smaller than I anticipated though and did not look like the picture)

I bought this item as a gift for my dentist office. After 1 month, it failed to work. $40 just thrown away. Nice idea, but not if it doesn't work.
