4.0 out of 5 stars Very fast and convenient; a little hard to clean
- I bought this jerky gun to replace a smaller Nesco one that I had used for about a year when one of the nuts at the end of the tube cracked. It only held about half a pound of meat, and I make about 5 pounds of jerky at a time, so I bought this one to save some time on reloading. Boy does it ever save time! 3.0 out of 5 stars Convenient size, build/quality could be better
I bought this jerky gun to replace one of the cheap plastic ones but I had issues on the first use. First, most of the gun is plastic and the trigger gets stuck in the handle so I have to be very careful when squeezing out the jerky. Second, cleaning the gun takes longer than others I've had b/c it's not dishwasher friendly. Overall the craftsmanship is mediocre but what...

It is very easy to load, and the mechanism on the handle for pumping out the jerky is so comfortable and easy to manipulate, it greatly cuts down on fatigue. Also, you can put out 2 strips (or sticks) of jerky at once, also saving a lot of time. What used to be an hour long process took about 20 minutes, so if you make a lot of jerky at one time, this is a no-brainer; buy it; its worth a little extra money to save that much time.
- I haven't owned it for very long, but everything seems very durable and well made. I think it will survive at least 3 times longer than the Nesco one I had previously purchased (which was about $15; I paid about $45 for this one after shipping costs).
- The only negative is that it is somewhat difficult to clean. This thing is HUGE and must be cleaned by hand; no way it will fit in a dishwasher. But the time I saved making jerky more than makes up for the 3 extra minutes it took to clean it.

5.0 out of 5 stars big hit for my jerky maker, November 9, 2008

I bought this as a gift for my husband because he likes to make his own jerky. He usually spends several hours getting everything just right. With this, he was able to go from start to finish in about 1/2 an hour. The end results of the jerky were perfectly shaped and uniform so they all dehydrated consistently so they were done at the same time. The round ones do take longer to dehydrate than the flat ones, but I liked the texture of them better. Loading and cleaning were very simple using the enclosed instructions and everything was included in the kit that we needed to get the job done.

Can't go wrong here folks. If you are into making jerky then don't go out and get some cheap jerky gun. This is top of the line at a reasonable price. The gun and attachment are well made and pumping
seasoned deer hamburger out is with the utmost in ease.
Big thimbs up here.
Richard

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Jerky Made Easy!, August 25, 2009

When the Weston Original Jerky Gun first arrived, we though maybe we should have opted for the smaller version. This thing looks more like a jerky bazooka than a simple jerky gun. After several uses, however, we're glad we went with the larger one. It requires fewer reloads than a smaller one would, it's easy to use, and easy to clean. We are very happy with it. We got a food dehydrator a while back, and the first few times making jerky were a real pain...slicing the meat into thin strips, etc. A friend of mine recommended the jerky gun, which allows you to make strips and sticks using ground meat. I think having the meat ground first also allows the seasonings to penetrate the meat more thoroughly. We've been making jerky every couple of weeks since it arrived. Good stuff. I highly recommend it.

I've used a couple of different jerky guns, and this one takes the cake. Holds 1.5 pounds of meat, so you don't spend all of your time taking apart and refilling the thing. I also got a couple of extra tubes, so I only fill those, can quick switch them, and it makes the jerky prep time much quicker. Highly recommend this to any jerky maker out there.

This is a great jerky gun. I gave it to my husband for Christmas and he has used it a dozen times already. It holds a lot of meat and cleans up really well.

I have to agree with the rest of the high star people for this gun. It's the first jerky gun I've used so I haven't had any experience in poorer quality units, but this one is great. The tube holds quite a bit so you don't have to reload as often, so as a result you can really make a lot of jerky in no time at all. Clean up is a breeze.

First, most of the gun is plastic and the trigger gets stuck in the handle so I have to be very careful when squeezing out the jerky. Second, cleaning the gun takes longer than others I've had b/c it's not dishwasher friendly. Overall the craftsmanship is mediocre but what do you expect when it's made in China. I do like the larger size since I can make more jerky so it does save time.

I called the customer support number that came with the packaging but got voicemail. Was told they would call back by the end of the day but never heard from them. I'll try the gun for a few more batches and decide if I'll send it back. Now that I've used it I really don't think it's worth the $40 price tag.

The Jerky Gun is fabulous. I can make jerky from grass fed meat with no sugar or chemicals and it takes less then 15 minutes. 5 minutes to mix in spices and let it set over night and less than 10 minutes to squeeze it out onto dehydrator trays with this gun. Weston Supply is awesome. After a few months of use, I was having trouble extruding meat. I sent an email to the company and they called me back. They provided clear instructions for a procedure to clean the gun. They assured me if that didn't work they would be glad to replace the gun. The cleaning worked great. Five stars to the company attitude and to the product.
