Most Helpful Customer Reviews

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful By Frank Paris on May 17, 2014
It is my understanding that Westone has replaced the ES5 with the ES50, which is what I bought from a Westone dealer in Portland, Oregon, U.S.A. That's really the best way to buy these in-ear monitors. Go to the Westone Website and look up a local dealer. The local dealer will then direct you to the audiologist they work with to take ear mould pourings from your own ears. Westone then generates in-ear monitors that fit into your personal ears as customized as your own finger print: they will be unique to the specific shape of your inner ear and no one else on Earth will be able to fit them snugly into his or her ears. The advantage is they form a perfect seal with your ear and provide 25 db attenuation of ambient sound. The disadvantage of course is you won't be able to demonstrate your bragging rights that you now have for owning absolutely perfect audiophile ear phones.

These in-ear monitors are marketed as monitors for musicians, but music lovers in general who lust after absolutely flat frequency response of their audio source will be absolutely blown away by the sound quality of these monitors. From the deepest thundering bass to the most crystal clear highs, you get it all with everything in between, an absolutely faithful reproduction of your source material. So there's no point in getting these unless you also have a very high quality headphone amplifier, and they will reveal every nuance in your source material. Listen to a state-of-the-art SACD recording and you will bring a live orchestra into your ear canals, I kid you not. Your jaws will drop when you first hear these on a state of the art recording on a state of the art stereo playback system.

And you don't have to spend an arm and a leg on a headphone amplifier (as you're doing when you purchase the ES50's LOL).
