Best of the Bunch!,

I enjoy all of the Westward games, but III is definitely the best of the bunch. The game requires you to create a settlement in the old west. You'll have to build homes, farms, and buildings, attract settlers, ward off bandits, and keep the settlement supplied with food, water, gold, and wood. Westward III includes some definite improvements on earlier Westward games- you can now use the mouse controls, graphics are better, and there are new ways to extract resources from the landscape. Westward III also has the most coherent storyline- you'll be working to reclaim land from an evil robber baron. This is a long game, with hours of gameplay. Well worth the money and lots of fun.

While the concept is great the gameplay is often frustrating. Four reasons:
It takes a long time to collect resources which you need to build things. You'll spend the first half hour of most scenarios waiting to get enough resources to build something new. Buildings must generally be built in a certain order. Once you know how to speed up (relative) resource gain you'll be building the same things in the same order over and over again. Scenarios follow generally the same format with minor tweaks Hidden items and quests to unlock stuff. I can only recommend you do a search for the walkthrough so you know what on earth to do sometimes. Without it I'd not have unlocked any of the special items. The 'combat' is fairly pathetic - there's no strategy to it other than let your hero go first so he gets everyone shooting at him before your possie kill the rest. Your hero comes back to life after he dies so no biggie. Overall probably worth $6 to kill a few hours but don't expect much here. Scenarios took me probably 10 hours to complete....sandbox mode I don't think I can take right now or I'll be looking for a bridge to jump off.

i think this game is great.the game starts out easy, then gets harder as you go.in this game you hunt for gold and set up little western towns as you go along.each individual in this game has their own job whether it be running the general store or working the gold mines.i also have westward 1 and 2,love the both of them to.in this game their is always a new task you have to meet.i have the most fun fighting the bandits that come in to the town, you even have your saloons with your drunks.i would definately reccommend this game, hours of fun.

Love it now but when I first bought this I tried it and hated it. I read other reviews and figured I must be missing something so I tried again and now I can't stop playing. Be sure to do the tutorial as that is where you learn all the short cuts. I still wish you could drag the characters and make them move faster. Very slow and frustrating. But you learn how to make the most of it then its really fun.

I tried playing this on Windows 7. The performance is extremely choppy. I have an Nvidia GTX 275 and it's not enough for this game? Also, the game freezes for about a second every time I scroll. This game is not playable.

I tried. I really did. The premise of the game is so cool, but the playing...not so much. Getting stuck, not enough help, trying to move around, it's all a lot more difficult than it should be. The fact that it took me many times to get through one level is ridiculous. It literally takes the fun out of it. As I said, frustrating! I should have added that I do not have any other Westward Games, therefore while others may be familiar with the vagaries of this game, a newbie is not. Frankly, issues like this should not occur for veterans or newbies in my opinion.

This game is great.. and for the what... $4.00 I paid for it... it's great!
The graphics are exceptional for a game of this price... the play has been well thought out... equal to any game of it's nature in more expensive forms... I did however have a few sound issues with the game... when ever I clicked on a character in certian (somewhat random instances) I would get a looping of the response acknowledgement from the character... "Yes Sir!" "Yes Sir!""Yes Sir!""Yes Sir!""Yes Sir!""Yes Sir!""Yes Sir!""Yes Sir!""Yes Sir!".... etc... can get pretty annoying... this goes away as soon as you click another character however and only crops up again at some random instance later... Anyway this did not really take away from the game... I mean... one small glich out of an otherwise very well done piece of software... I don't get as good a results from games I pay $60.00 to $80.00 for!!! if your even half interested in a Real time Stratagie kinda Role play sorta game of the old west... get this game...

I love all the Westward games. I don't know why, they don't take a whole lot of strategy or interaction...its just a very simple game with pretty simple tasks.
Even so, I keep coming back for more. I love figuring out the awards. I used to just play the game to "beat" it...but now the most fun part for me is earning every award possible!

I'm a huge fan of the Sims and those Ages of Civilization games. So this was a prefect mix. You have to build up your town with resources you assign villagers to get and there is a bunch of side quest. I love the building town creativity aspect and the little strategy you have to use during side quest. Why did I not pick this game earlier to download?! ^_^

All the "Westward" Games from Sandlot are great! This is no exception. Many hours of fun & play. Make a western town thrive through various tribulations- bandits, earthquakes, drought. Find gold deposits & make mines, build farms & ranches to feed your town, complete various "quests" to earn experience & gold, all in real time. Graphics very good. Worth the money. Works well on my vista pc.
