5.0 out of 5 stars Westward has done it again, even better
I have been a huge fan of any type of adventure exploration type of game, but this game pretty much beats its Westward predecessors. From resource management, to building towns, trading, and defeating bandits, Westward IV has it all. 1.0 out of 5 stars It will not open
I was foolish enough to buy the game rather than try a trial version first and I cannot start the game on either of the two computers on which I installed the program. Going through the recommended troubleshooting steps didn't help either. It may be a compatibility problem with the Amazon Games and Software Downloader as I can't open any other games downloaded and...

I have been a huge fan of any type of adventure exploration type of game, but this game pretty much beats its Westward predecessors. From resource management, to building towns, trading, and defeating bandits, Westward IV has it all. This time, you get to manage a railroad with your town's wealth being dependent on trading using your railroad. The game feels longer because of these additional added elements and quests involved, and the Westward series keeps growing due to their popularity, unique gameplay, and rich storyline. With the fact that this game is available for download before Christmas, it is a great gift for anybody who loves the role playing, exploration, Western genres. I highly recommend it.

I've been playing the Westward games since the first one came out and they are by far my favorite computer games. Westward IV is the best one yet! I really can't say anything bad about any of them, just that they keep getting better. The only problem I have with Westward is that I have a hard time shutting it down for the night. It is very addictive. You get to create your own settlement and start building up your town with new buildings and inviting new settlers to your town. You have to keep everyone happy or they will move out of your town. You also have to watch out for the Bandits. They show up all over the place and try to shoot up your town. In Westward IV you have one main "town" that you will keep coming back to. Throughout the game you will travel to other little towns and help the citizens out with whatever problem they are having in exchange for running your railroad through thier town. One of my favorite little extras with both Westward 3 and Westward 4 is the Market Place Challenge. You are given 3 or 4 minutes to fill orders for the market clerk. Each level gets a little harder, but with each level you get bigger rewards. The most important reward is "Experience". You have to have certain amounts of experience to purchase the rights to new buildings you can build in your town. Can't say enough great things about this game. To me it's an A+.

I love this game. I found just a few problems. Sometimes it will not let us keep and use the rat key. Sometimes it will not unlock the market challenges when completed tasks are done. But over all I really like this game.

I tried playing this game on a laptop. Had tons of issues with the software on Windows 7. In order to fix the issues for the game not to crash I had to update my DirectX, isolate and eliminate all sound effects on my sound driver, and MAKE SURE THE TRAIN IS RUNNING AND HAS RECENTLY LEFT THE ENTIRE SCREEN before each save. Also, be wary of having 3 employees at the train yard. They sometimes will process coal too fast..the train will freeze up if another train is ready to come before the previous has left the screen. There is also a "no build" zone near the train tracks which will stall the game. Still, the game is fun. It's worth buying at 6.99 but be prepared for technical issues if you are one of the unlucky ones with an incompatible system.

I LOVE this game! I've played all the Westward series & can't wait for another to come out. I haven't been able to find any similar games to play. When playing, I do save frequently (every 45-60 minutes) as it does occasionally crash. This also helps if you make an error, so you can go back & not have to start again. I play mostly in the "Anne" mode, but both are quite entertaining. There are a number of walksthrough out there; I have occasionally looked to my fellow games for help. Overall, the game is very challenging & entertaining.

If you like building games, you will like this. You start out with a base town, then build a railroad at little towns from that, there are quests you go on and you have to deal with bandits, rats carrying the plauge, industrial waste and more. It's really easy to pick up, the tutorials tell you all you need to know. It has frozen on my once or twice and it takes a long time to exit, but for $7 this is a graet game that will keep you entertained for a long time!

This game has the perfect balance of strategy and action for me. There is always enough going on to keep things interesting, yet you still find time to enjoy building your towns. I like that the player has the option of choosing a female character for the role of hero and/or sheriff. The game also has a sense of humor. Very addicting. Can't stop playing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Game!, December 20, 2011

I was surprised at how fun this game is...never having played any of the Westward games before, I am hooked on this game! You have to build a city, keep its citizens happy, all the while completing missions. There is alot of strategy involved....where to build, what to build, how to get and spend your resources...it reminds me somewhat of Civilization, except with cuter graphics and side missions to complete. I had no problem downloading, installing, or playing on my laptop computer. And my pre teen nephews have their own game started for when they come over, and they are enjoying it as well.
Great game for a great price! It will literally keep you busy for weeks, months even.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love the Westward games!, November 28, 2011

Great games. Speed is less important (for the most part) than logic. You can take your time playing but think about what you need to accomplish. Save often. Unbelievable price. I played all the Westward games over and over...
