Book Description

December 12, 1994
Wet Games provides teachers with a collection of games and activities that bring to participants of all ages and at all levels the chance to acquire and perfect swimming skills and to develop techniques of rescue and survival. The range is from simple games in ankle-deep water to advanced procedures that simulate difficulties any swimmer may face from time to time, and the importance of the safety factor is emphasized throughout: water must be respected, no matter at what depth or in what location.

The authors believe that learning should be fun and enjoyable, and that even the most advanced scientific principles can be taught by playing games. They have tested all procedures extensively in national and international swimming programs and with both children and adults; requirements, levels, organization and description of each procedure are clearly set out and illustrated, and the text is practical and easy to follow.

Children and adults love playing in water. Wet Games not only adds to the enjoyment: in so doing it teaches a range of invaluable water-safety skills. Spiral bound with plasticised water-proof pages.

Peter Meaney lectures in Physical Education at the Coburg Campus of RMIT in Melbourne Australia. He has a masters degree in sports education from Manchester University and specializes in coaching and teaching a number of sports of which swimming is one of the most important. He is a Chief Instructor with the Royal Life Saving Society of Victoria and a Course Director for the Certificate in Aquatic Leadership, Education and Practice.

Sarie Culka has a Diploma of Physical Education from the University of Melbourne. She has spent many years writing curriculum documents relating to the teaching of swimming in schools and is also a chairperson for the Examination and Awards Panel for the Royal Life Saving Society of Victoria.

Georges McKail (illustrator) has a masters degree in Education and has many years experience as a sports educator and an author and illustrator of educational resources. He has particular experience in illustrating for sports publications.

This review is from: Wet Games : A Fun Approach to Teaching Swimming and Water Safety (Spiral-bound)
This book is going to be very helpful in our aquatics program. I like how the games have been broken down by levels and how they are made so that the swimmers can get more confident with their swimming. A few of the games will be played by our lifeguards to have fun with some training and work on our teamwork.
