Grade 4-6-- While Kahl presents a more thorough treatment of precipitation than many others who write about weather, it is difficult to identify the audience for this book. His tone and level of discussion range from banal questions suitable for first or second graders, to dry, verbal descriptions with facts, vocabulary, and sentence structure more appropriate for fifth or sixth graders. The photographs exhibit little forethought in either content or composition, and diagrams are sadly lacking. While on a simpler level, Bramwell's Weather (Watts, 1987; o.p.) has more informative and attractive photographs and diagrams. --Judith V. Lechner, Auburn University, AL
