Book Description

August 15, 2003
Whether you're attracted by the big bucks, the intellectual rigor, the glamour, the work, or a combination of the above, you're not alone: Competition for consulting jobs is fierce. Despite the current economic slowdown, management consulting firms are hard at work, growing, reengineering, total quality managing and operationally improving hospitals, consumer products companies, automobile manufacturers, utilities, telecommunications firms—you name it. Like Elvis, consultants are everywhere. But the competition to get these jobs is intense.

As a result, you'll need to do your homework to land a job with a top consulting firm. Among other things, you'll need to know why you really want to be a consultant and why YOU are the perfect person for the job. WetFeet is here to help you find those answers.

In this popular WetFeet Insider Guide, you'll explore:
  • Profiles of 35 top strategy, Big Five, and specialty consulting firms.
  • Consulting opportunities beyond McKinsey and BCG.
  • Which firm is right for you? Take our exclusive Consulting Firm Appeal Test.
  • What the latest industry trends are.
  • Industry rankings of the major firms.
  • Comparisons of the career ladders at the different firms.
  • Consulting-speak.
  • What a case interview is and how to prepare for one.
  • What measures your interviewer is evaluating you on.
  • Grilling your recruiter: questions to ask your interviewer.
  • What a week in the life of a consultant is like.
  • What the key differences are between working for a consulting firm vs. an investment bank.

5.0 out of 5 stars a really in-depth guide, April 9, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The WetFeet Insider Guide To Careers In Management Consulting (Paperback)
it's no wonder business majors and MBAs look to wetfeet for this kind of information. this guide was a great resource for me. it had tons of current information on key trends, charting the progress of the industry, changes and rankings, etc. i got a good feel for what to expect in management consulting. it certainly didn't romanticize it (gone are the boom years, after alL!), and i'm glad since i would've smelled a rat right away if it had. that said, the lifestyle, culture, diversity info was good stuff, as was the info on salary, vacation and travel. i also liked the days in the life -- written in great detail so that i can really get a good idea of what it's like to be an analyst in the industry. and finally, the list of questions to ask the interviewers as well as questions to be prepared for are a great starting point for me when i think about what to rehearse for when i'm going through the hiring rounds.
