2.0 out of 5 stars Different, But The Novely Wears Off Quick...
With so much content being put into games these days, it's going to take more than a tetris-like game to give a game player true value. The game is different, and challenging. However, the novelty wears off after a little while and you're left with a so-so game that begins to gather dust.

Recent reviews of this game have not given it the proper credit it deserves. You may first believe this game is dull, but it grows more and more complex as you play. The gameplay takes a few attempts to understand, but eventual mastery of the game takes hours, if not days. I love Tetris, and this game is a lot like Tetris in the fact that the biggest challenge is beating yourself. And with that, the higher you raise the bar, the more entertaining and challenging the game can be. And I believe the Amazon.com price for this is now .... How can you go wrong with that?

5.0 out of 5 stars Creative fun and a lot of strategy, December 23, 1999

As with the other reviews i have only got experience with the n64 version of the game and if nothing has changed although im sure there are lil changes here and there, it is a very fun addictive game that is fun alone or multi-player.. Your job is to build walls and mountains around an area so that when rain hits the area it will not overflow and flood. Sounds simple and boring huh? In reality though the fun factor is amazing and the game gets difficult and fast paced very quickly. Other elements are included such as bombs (that blow away your "mountains" and make holes for the water to flood into) that really make this game challenging and anything but boring. The only real way to know what this game is about is to give it a try, but beware you will be hooked instantly =) .

4.0 out of 5 stars Wetrix for N64 was fun..., December 4, 1999

I played Wetrix for the N64, so perhaps that is relevant to the Dreamcast version.

Wetrix is a fun puzzle game where wall sections (kinda like tetris pieces) fall from the sky onto a square playing field. For people that remember Rampart, it's like that with water. You're trying to build dikes to hold water from all running out. Occasionally you get a bomb instead of a wall section, which is where things get interesting because you have to figure out where you can detonate the bomb without losing all your water.

I rather enjoyed it, but it's not as easy to get into as Tetris, for example.

How will it be on the Dreamcast? Well, it's not axactly a high-speed special-effects game, but I suppose the water could look really great...

The game is excellent. Seemingly quite simple, it is chock full of subtlety as well as fun. The graphics are primo, especially in the higher levels, and the audio is superb as well. It is very difficult to pull myself away from this one.

Wetrix is a cool Tetris-like puzzler game with a three dimensional twist - you're stacking shapes in order to form pools, to hold in water!

With so many games out there involving mayhem and slaughter, it's great to find a game that really catches your attention that involves logic and strategy. In one sense, this is a game similar to tetris. Shapes fall from the sky - Ts, lines, hollow squares - and you arrange them as they fall. But you're arranging them onto a 3D grid and they stack to form mountains and valleys. Then, interspersed with those falling shapes, you get falling water to form lakes, or fireballs to dry up your lakes, or other special events.

It does take a little getting used to to think in three dimensions, and I can see where some people might be challenged by this. But it's really not that hard once you get the hang of it, and it is really cool to watch the mountains stack up, forming a landscape of your construction. You need to balance your growth though - if you get too high, an earthquake will happen. This is a reasonable balance - if you built your mountains 80 stories high, how could you possibly view the gameboard any more :) So the trick is to lower sometimes, raise at other times, and keep your lakes intact to hold in the water.

The sounds aren't great on this one, but really, they are not great on most puzzle games. I might even suggest you turn down the volume on this and get your stereo to play some of your favorite music while you play. It's the strategy and mind-challenge you're getting here, not a classical sonata for the ears :)

Highly recommended, this is the time of game that really tunes those little grey cells of the brain!

This game rocks! It is a great diversion from the seemingly endless idiot role-playing games that are so unaccountably popular nowadays. If you liked Tetris (admit it, you did), then this game will blow you away. Great graphics. Be sure to use a jump pack with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars if its not like tetris people complain... if it did copy tetris people would still complain, August 10, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars

This is a puzzle game that consists of building pieces of land to hold and maintain the water level that is thrown at your building grid. The bombs yes at times are annoying but I feel they are needed to balance out the difficulty. If you like action games and hate puzzle games... duh look elsewhere. If you are a tetris snob where nothing compares, still look elsewhere. If you enjoy puzzle games such as tetris, bust a move, and are willing to try something new I was not disappointed. Wouldn't break my wallet on this game but is perfect for when I only have a little time to play.

I too found this game to be very dull.

Being a huge fan of Tetris, I was pretty interested in picking up this title. With all the good reviews it received I figured it would be a sure hit. Actually, it isn't.

From the poor graphics (very Nintendo-ish), to the irritating robotic voice-over (sound effects do NOT show off Dreamcast abilities), I soon found myself bored with building walls to hold in water. The weak graphics and sound might not be too bad if the interface was better (it is a puzzle game after all), but placing your walls in the position you want as they descend from the top of the screen is near impossible. The controls really are that bad. Try moving one slot over and you will usually end up moving way too far or moving the wrong way. And trust me, it's not poor hand-eye coordination on my part.

My suggestion, you better rent this one before you buy or you may be kicking yourself for wasting your $$. I know I am.

If you don't like it after playing a few times, most likely you aren't going to, and then, of course, it'll be too late.
