5.0 out of 5 stars Obscure addition to my American punk rock youth, September 18, 2007
I first dicovered this tape (yeah - it was a tape at the time) in a discount bin in the Burnsville mall in MN in '89 (This place was the "Biggie" before Mall of America). Being from a small (though modestly ecclectic) North Midwestern town it was necessary to travel to the Twin Cities to find practically anything music (or clothing) wise that was in anyway non-mainstream. So of course this funky British all girl band instantly jumped out at my 14 year old be-mohawked self. I'd never seen a group of other girls - all in one place - with hair and dress quite as garrish as mine, so I had to have it! What I discovered when I popped the tape in my cassette player was something more than the rudimentary Plunk-Plang-Jolt of the Punk Rock I'd been listening to (and still enjoy - in retrospect) like the Circle Jerks, Descendants, Violent Femmes, Dead Milkmen, etc... It was something of that, but it was also New Wave and kinda "spooky". I've never heard another band like them and it bothers me that I'm having such a hard time finding a copy of their original album "We've Got A Fuzzbox And We're Gonna Use It". I originally purchased the cassete in '89, and again in '91 (both times loaning it out and never seeing it again) and I'm itching to not only recommend it, but purchase it again. Many of the haunting, but rythmic melodies are unduplicated by anyone else that I've heard on the American scene. I'm almost 33 years old now. I'm a hard working mother and my mohawk is long gone, but good music lasts forever.
