This book is a treasure for everyone interested in the days of sailing whaling. If you want to build for example the Revell Model Kit "Charles W. Morgan" - the last existing of the sailing whalers, still being afloat in Mystic River Seaport in US - you should get this book. Many photos (all black an white of course) do show live and work of the men and the ships. Many photos are from the CW. Morgan or the Wanderer (another Sailing Whaler reaching a high age!).. Its a great souce to get an impression about those days and the hard life on board.

Can stronly recomment this beautiful book - for modelers or interested in this issue!

Whaling is dominated by Melville and rightly so. There does exist a history of whaling before Melville and after Mellville. "Whale Ships and Whaling" helps tell the story of this history as well as illuminate an important aspect of American history. As an industry whaling had its beginnings and a peak in technology. Albert Church illustrates this history well. If you are a romantic, a "Moby Dick" afficianado, or just wish to visit Mystic or New Bedford, a read of Whale Ships and Whaling will make these visits so much more enlightening.
