The best British rock & roll band that never came to America???,
By Larry Davis "powerpoplarry" (NYC/Long Island, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Whales & Dolphins: The Best of (Audio CD)
It's true, these guys never had a US record deal with any of EMI's labels, indie or otherwise, and it's a real shame...they could have had a serious American following. In a way, they are sorta like if Def Leppard came of age in the 80s or 90s instead of the 70s glam era.
Seriously, Def Leppard garnered a big US following before cracking their home turf..."Pyromania" sold 10 million copies in the US, had 3 big singles (and more had rock radio play) and bombed in the UK at first. The same thing could have happened with Terrorvision, if a US label gave them a chance...same thing happened with the Wildhearts...even though EastWest did release their debut album here, they dropped the ball, promo-wise and never even released followup albums like "P.H.U.Q.". Anyhoo, Terrorvision's tunes are REALLY catchy, like powerpop, and really rocking, with an element of that self-depreciating brand of humour the Brits do so well. I also love their elements of surprise, like a bit of hiphop here, cheerleading vocals there, and dance beats all over the place, but without losing sight of their rock & roll roots, catchy pop hooks and British sensibility. Fave songs here: "Oblivion", "Discoteque Wreck", "Celebrity Hit List"...the whole CD really. Like I said, they shoulda cracked America...people woulda love them here...maybe they should reunite and come here anyway and do a small club gig in NYC...people might actually come!!! Ya never know, and it would be good fun too. RIP Terrorvision.
