Lightweight and small enough to fit in your pocket, yet powerful enough to fill a room with sound, the LoudMan portable powered speaker system is all that's needed for a laptop, portable CD player, minidisc, or MP3 device. LoudMan provides superb stereo sound from powered speakers in a shell no bigger than a double-CD case. Wharfedale's use of NXT surface sound technology allows for small, thin speakers whose quality is far superior to the traditional small multimedia units that most people are familiar with. A built-in amplifier will accept a signal from any .125-inch minijack stereo output (cable provided), and dramatically improves listening experience, whether you're listening to a personal stereo with friends, giving a multimedia presentation, playing a games console, or just reviewing your latest MP3 downloads.

LoudMan uses innovative NXT technology to produce a diffuse sound. Rather than producing directional, coherent waves like standard stereo loudspeakers, NXT panels produce sound from their entire surface. This means the sound is more ambient in nature, having a number of significant benefits, including a more even sound pattern throughout the room. The sound doesn't get louder and quieter as traditional loudspeakers do when you move in and out of their interference patterns. Rather, each listener will hear the same sound, wherever they are in the vicinity.

Supplied complete with a built-in low-consumption amplifier, the LoudMan can be battery powered (it uses 4 AA batteries, supplied) or used with an optional 6V DC adapter. The LoudMan carrying case stores one LoudMan system, a connecting cable, and six compact discs.

I'm not a heavy rocker type but these just don't put out enough sound to enjoy the music. The sound is easily overcome by ambient noise.

Too bad. It's a great concept but unless you're looking for "music to fall asleep by" pass these up.

NOTE: Amazon will also charge you to return them. I would suggest you try a reputable stereo establishment that will stand behind their offerings.

So these speakers don't have earth shattering bass like my living room stereo, but, for what they are they have a pretty decent sound, not as tinny as some reviews said. The bass is there, just not really floor shaking. I originally ordered the platinum but settled for the limeade yellow when the other took too long to even get shipped. Hey, these don't look too bad! They are a nice shade of yellow and not too bright. These will be used solely for trips to the wilderness, to the beach, or on vacation where the portables would be taken along. Batteries are simple to install, although it took a minute to figure out how to open the door to put them in. The power switch is located below the line in and is hard to reach if you have big fingers and aren't looking at it. It comes with the batteries (4-AA) and the connector cable for your devices. There is no manual included, but the set up is pretty much a 'no-brainer'. These are not meant to be used as primary speakers, but are portable, to be used when the situation calls for it. Overall, I think this portable speaker system will serve its purpose and I am pleased with them.

I bought the LoudMan based purely on the Amazon review. I really didn't know what to expect, as I couldn't find much information about the unit even after doing google searches. Once I figured out how to open the battery case, (no directions are included) I plugged in a portable cd player and the results were satisfying. I didn't expect hi-fi, but what I got was definitely listenable; and it plays quite loud. People I've shown it to marvel at the design and the LoudMan's ability to disperse sound in all directions. Only time will tell how durable the unit is, as it seems a bit flimsy.
