This review is from: Wharfedale SW250 Powered Subwoofer (rosewood)
I purchased on of these through Amazon and it was a big mistake. I ended up eating $160 for shipping. The subwoofer is very heavy, but that didn't concern me at the time. It's the fact that the system hums at pretty much any level, even with the input signal completely removed. This is not a grounding problem in my system. After returning the Wharfedale, I purchased Cambridge Soundworks sub that doesn't hum and blows the SW250 out of the water in sound quality.

Another failing with the SW250 is that it has NO auto-on/off mode so it stays on all the time unless you shut it off manually. It stays pretty warm while idling so it's drawing considerable current. The final nail in its coffin is that you can turn it on only using the remote. There is no switch on the sub itself to do this so if your remote is broken or lost someday, you're out of luck using it. That's a terrible design.

Even when playing, the SW250 does not impress for a 12" driver. It's boomy and weak, especially for a sealed enclosure. Look elsewhere for bass.
