Had a Copy of the Original Release from 1991 thru 2004..., October 19, 2006
This review is from: What About Me (Audio CD)
Hello, Amazon.com.
As my subject title implies above, I once owned a CD copy of the original release of this fine album, from the fall of 1991 thru the summer of 2004. A former female friend of mine borrowed it from me and I never got it back, unfortunately. Immediately afterward, I went out to see if I could pick up a fresh copy of this CD--to absolutely no avail. I was told at that time, by two CD dealers, that it was already discontinued for good. Up until October 18, 2006, I had no clue that this album had been resurrected--and I must say that I am more than pleased with this!! I once again look forward to hearing this CD, on both my PC's media player and when I play it on my DJ music system.
Although the album as a whole is absolutely fantastic, I must say that my top favorites on the "What About Me?" release are the title track, as well as "The Night Goes On", "Two Hearts, One Love", "Somebody Took My Love", "Crazy", and "Heart to Heart". For any of you who enjoy the mid-1980s era of the light AC genre, this is one album that you cannot pass up! To me, Kenny Rogers is very much like many other crossover artists: he can perform light AC and pop just as well as he can perform his primary country genre. The same goes for both Glen Campbell and Ronnie Milsap, as well as for Steve Wariner and the late Marty Robbins.
And as for Kenny Rogers himself, I hope, sir, you will get a chance to read this review. Ever since I got my first copy of your "What About Me?" release on cassette from my late grandmother, back in 1984, I have been totally hooked on your style of pop/AC/country music. Please keep up the good work, Mr. Rogers!
Best Regards,
Russell

Simply THE Best Kenny Rogers Album of All Time!!!, July 10, 2005
This review is from: What About Me (Audio CD)
I remember buying this album during the 80's, and I thought then that this was Kenny Rogers' best album up to that time. Well, it's 2005, and I still think this way! Kenny Rogers teamed up with David Foster for this album, and they made quite a team! Anything that David Foster produces is very good, but this is an excellent example of Foster's earlier years of producing albums.
The title song with Kim Carnes and James Ingram was simply among the best in Rogers' history; Richard Marx co-wrote this song along with Rogers and Foster. Then there was "The Stranger" written by Dolly Parton about a man leaving his wife and children behind; very eerie, but very good!
Definitely five stars for this album!!!

album great recording not, November 17, 2006
This review is from: What About Me (Audio CD)
I used to love this album and was happy to see it on CD finally. I was not so happy once I heard it however. This CD is so hollow and tinny sounding that it sounds like it was recorded in a tunnel - or with a tin can and strings. Not sure how they messed up this transfer but mess it up they did.
