From the Inside Flap

What Are You Afraid Of?
What is it that immobilizes you? What is stealing your joy and destroying your hope? What is robbing you of sleep night after night? What keeps you from living by faith and taking risks? What keeps you from giving your life wholly to a loving God who wants nothing but the best for you?

Regardless of your answer to these questions, one thing is absolutely certain: God is the answer to all your fears.

If God is good and loving (and He is), and if God is all-powerful (and He is), and if God has a purpose and a plan that includes His children (and He does), and if we are His children (as I hope you are), then there is no reason to fear anything, for God is in control of everything.

As you read this book, my prayer is that you will grow in your conviction that God is the answer to all your fears, that as you look to the future you will see nothing except His power and love guarding your every step, and that you will find the truth that sets you free to live the fearless life God created you to enjoy.

—Dr. David Jeremiah

From the Back Cover

You Can Conquer Fear!
Everyone is afraid of something—failure, success, loneliness, crowds, death, life—the list is endless. And no one is immune to fear. Fear haunts the weak and the powerful, the young and the old, the rich and the poor. It is the great equalizer.

Some fears—hearing an unexpected noise in the night or encountering an icy bend in the road—attack us only momentarily, passing almost as quickly as they come. But others, such as contracting a deadly illness, being rejected by a loved one, or dying alone, can haunt us for a lifetime, taking up residence in our minds and eating away at our sense of security—and eventually taking over our lives.

Well, fear not!

There is hope. In What Are You Afraid Of? Dr. David Jeremiah identifies and explains what is at the heart of nine of our greatest fears and lays out a biblical plan for overcoming each one of them. He also examines one particular fear that should be part of our daily lives: the fear of God.

This is a great book for anyone who constantly worries or has anxiety because it will help empower the reader to overcome their fear with faith in God and His power.
Elizabeth Cundiff
Honestly, while much of the book is ordinary as I mentioned above, the one chapter worth reading is the very first.

"What Are You Afraid Of?" is the newest release by Dr. David Jeremiah, addressing many fears common to Man. Each of the 10 chapters has a specific fear as its topic. Those are:

1) Disaster (natural calamity) -- You can read the 1st chapter PDF by clicking here.
2) Disease (serious illness)
3) Debt (financial collapse)
4) Defeat (failure)
5) Disconnection (being alone)
6) Disapproval (rejection)
7) Danger (sudden trouble)
8) Depression (mental breakdown)
9) Death (dying)
10) Deity (fear of God)

LIKES: Dr. Jeremiah is one of those long-standing, trusty teachers of God's word. He takes his ministry seriously, he's well-spoken, and he is highly respected. His books are often straight-forward and clearly understandable by his readers. Each and every chapter is chock-full of applicable scripture and numerous touching anecdotes and stories designed to encourage readers through their struggles. The book appears to be written with Christian readership in mind. But although a plethora of scripture exists, this one is still a book that may be well-received by non-believers.

FAVORITE CHAPTER: My favorite chapter was #5 - Disconnection: not because I struggle with this particular fear, but because Dr. Jeremiah drives home a crucial aspect of the gospel message. In the chapter, Dr. Jeremiah discusses the alone-ness experienced by Christ. Additionally, he addresses the utter loneliness that those apart from Christ will experience after death. It has long been my opinion that hell would not need even luke-warm flames.

Instead, the vast loneliness in outer darkness would be torment enough for the lost soul. No love, no interaction with others, no hope. Just utter darkness forever.

In the busyness of life it is often easy to forget the One who is in control and succumb to the pressure and pulls of life. We are constantly anxious, intimidated and fearful which prevents many Christians from living the life God called them to live.

But there is hope!

In his new book What Are You Afraid Of? Facing Down Your Fears with Faith (Tyndale House Publishers), Dr. David Jeremiah discusses the top ten "fears" that Christians encounter on a daily basis. In a unique arrangement of thought, all the "fears" begin with the letter "D":
+Disaster: the Fear of Natural Calamity
+Disease: the Fear of Serious Illness
+Debt: the Fear of Financial Collapse
+Defeat: the Fear of Failure
+Disconnection: the Fear of Being Alone
+Disapproval: the Fear of Rejection
+Danger: the Fear of Sudden Trouble
+Depression: the Fear of Mental Breakdown
+Death: the Fear of Dying
+Deity: the Fear of God

Dr. Jeremiah's book What Are You Afraid Of? is all about learning how to conquer fear with faith:
-Don't let crippling fears keep you from the life God has called you to live.
-Discover the joy God has for you when you cast your cares (and fears) upon Him.
-You are nothing to be afraid for God is with you!

In What Are You Afraid Of? Dr. Jeremiah identifies nine fears Christians must overcome also examines one fear that should be part of our daily lives. The book is a required study which will help you find liberty in your Christian walk to fulfill your calling in God. Dr. Jeremiah also points the way to gain the freedom that Christ offers over your fears. This is a challenging book, timely and much-needed in today's troubled times.

David Jeremiah gets to the root of fear. He covers most of the fears people suffer from and offers ways to combat a
fearful heart. It was very helpful to me. Lifted my spirit and gave me hope.

Title: What Are You Afraid Of?
Author: Dr. David Jeremiah
Publisher: Tyndale House Publishers, Inc.
ISBN: 978-1-4143-8046-9

"Think about it - fear is almost always based on the future. Sometimes we're afraid because we know what's coming in the future. But more commonly, we're afraid of what we don't know about the future. We're afraid of what might happen," Dr. David Jeremiah writes in his book, "What Are You Afraid Of? - Facing Down Your Fears With Faith."

At two hundred and twenty-eight pages, this paperback book is targeted toward young and old adults who are dealing or have dealt with fear and want to overcome its strong grip on their lives. With a Christian emphasis, mainly the New King James Version of the Bible is used with four other versions included.

With most fears in teenagers being terrorist attacks, spiders, death/being killed, not succeeding in life/failing, war, heights, crime/violence, being alone, the future, and nuclear war, Jeremiah stresses fear is usually future-based and that we should focus on God instead of our fears.

Within ten chapters, the writer breaks fear into ten "D" sections: disaster, disease, debt, defeat, disconnection, disapproval, danger, depression, death and Deity. Addressing each individually, the reader who has a fear of natural calamity, illness, financial loss, failure, being alone, rejection, trouble, mentality, dying or God can focus on that specific type for guidance.

Using ample Biblical applications of Old and New Testament, Psalms is mentioned often along with characters such as Job, Moses, Joshua, King David, Hezekiah, Paul, Peter, and, of course, Jesus.
