This album is incredible. There are many instant-classic tracks. It's amazing to hear so many scratched hooks. Statik is the new Preemo. The jazzy sound on many of the beats is just awesome. This is classic stuff. True hip hop. The hooks are so different from the terrible sing-songy ones that unfortunately dominate modern rap. As good as the production is, one might initially overlook the MCs. But the artist selection is just as good as the beats. Nearly all of them bring sick flows, and there are several unforgettable verses.

In sum, I strongly recommend that any hip-hop fan buy this album. Thank you Statik for keeping it classic.

Statik resurrects the jazzy hip hop album. The album is solid throughout, even though some of his choices of MC's deliver lukewarm performances. Action Bronson's contributions shine while Joey Badass' verses are competent yet lacking in excitement.

Been a fan of Statik since his first album which seems to have been forgotten "Spell My Name Right" and every project he's done since and this is his masterpiece. The production alone is what makes it, literally every best is that awesome catchy jazzy style that the old Jazzmatazz albums had or Pete Rocks mid-90s stuff. Excellent horn and piano samples abound it's just amazing how much improvement as a producer he has made. He was always good but now turning into one of my fav producers he's now at the point when u see his name in the credits you already know it's gonna be a dope beat before u hear it. If you are a fan of real hip hop (u know what I mean by that) I guarantee you will love this LP

I'm really into Jazzy Hip Hop (e.g. DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Flying Lotus, 9th Wonder, J Dilla, Nujabes), but I took Statik Selektah for granted. I respected his work, but did not give him the attention I should of. This album is a modern classic that won't get the praise it deserves in the current mainstream climate. But you have an OBLIGATION to listen to it if Jazzy Hip Hop is your thing. The instrumentals are godly, and the featured MCs bring some great verses to the table. Black Thought's verse on "The Imperial" is insane! Joey Bada$$ really brings it on his features along with Action Bronson, Talib Kweli, Styles P, and more. It's top to bottom a great album worth a listen. 5/5.

I am a huge Statik Selektah fan! from his Shade 45 radio show to all his albums and mixtapes. I support this dude. It not a lot of good music coming out of Hip Hop so when I see someone who is dedicated to their craft and a student of the game. It gets my attention and this brutha is always dropping great music and getting the best talent to bring his music to life. I like the jazz fusion, Statik definitely pulled it off and created a good compilation. Heavy Rotation in my ride!!

I think it's overrated, but I'm super picky with my hiphop. It's too jazzy sounding, I wanted more of the gritty sound of the 90s.
