5.0 out of 5 stars Know the context
I am a firm believer that reading, memorizing and studying Scripture is best done in context. It helps me tremendously to be familiar with who the author is, when the book was written and a little background on where and why it was written. What the Bible is All About answers these questions plus many more. Now, when I begin to study a specific book in the Bible or simply...

1.0 out of 5 stars Totally Unfocused
If you are looking for tottlay unfocused ramblings of someone you don;t know then here it is. If instead you are looking for a well written book that looks deeper into the Bible and doesn't make a thousand references to all the books in the bible DO NOT BY THIS BOOK!!!!!!

I am a firm believer that reading, memorizing and studying Scripture is best done in context. It helps me tremendously to be familiar with who the author is, when the book was written and a little background on where and why it was written. What the Bible is All About answers these questions plus many more. Now, when I begin to study a specific book in the Bible or simply want a little background on a passage I'm reading, I turn to this book as a complementary tool. I highly recommend it as an addition to any Believer's library!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent explanation to the Bible, July 26, 2006
This review is from: What the Bible is All About: Bible Handbook: NIV Edition (Paperback)
This book is an excellent description of each book in the Bible within about ten pages per book. It explains concepts that would otherwise go unnoticed. I am using this book for my Sunday school teachers, who are excited to be able to get a better understandng of the Bible, a long with some of my 11th and 12th grade youth who want to learn more. This is one book that you will be glad you purchased.

Front cover says it is a Bible handbook but it is also like a commentary. I like it as a study guide as I am reading the bible. It give an excellent overview of every book in the Bible. A very user friendly book to help you understand the Bible. I like it. Check it out and I think you will want to add it to your collection.

I have enjoyed using this text as a compliment to Matthew Henry's Commentary. Dr. Mears has formatted this book in such a way as to make it easy to jump in no matter where you choose to start!

Great supplemental to the bible in a year reading plans. Additionally, a great alternative to understanding / getting through some of the more difficult chapters of the old testament.

I have ordered at least 35 of these books for students I have taught over the past 2.5 years only because it is one of the best sources of Bible knowledge apart from the Bible itself. The organization of the material and the way it is presented makes it a great lead-in to student Bible study. It does not portent to replace the Bible, simply establish a different way of understanding what the Bible has to offer. I keep several variations of this book in my personal library. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that wants a obtain a clear cut understanding of the Bible before they read the Bible itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars A master piece for all, May 24, 2008
This review is from: What the Bible is All About: Bible Handbook: NIV Edition (Paperback)
Henrietta's book is the most useful tool in understanding the Bible. If you are in a Bible Study or just reading the Bible, this book is a must read first, last or as you progress. I have had the privledge to know the author and she was a shining star herself and her book is just an example of how she relates to God's word to and with others. She is missed in life but her rewards are overflowing. I hope to meet her again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable resource!, January 23, 2007

I can't say enough good things about this book! I have purchased it twice for each student in my Bible classes at our congregation. (5/6th grade level). I use it in my preparations to teach and since it is reproducible for that use, find it to be invaluable. I disagree doctrinally with some of the teaching in it (Calvinistic teachings) but for helping others to understand the books of the Bible and its chronology, it is wonderful. There are maps and charts as well as a good dictionary in the back of the book. Get it for your children AND yourself!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Companion To Your Bible!!!, November 18, 2009
This review is from: What the Bible is All About: Bible Handbook: NIV Edition (Paperback)
I purchased this book at the recommendation of my local Christian store. I had been trying to read the Bible in a year and after one year I wasn't even half way through... the Old Testement was dragging for me and I knew I needed some help. Once I had this handbook to guide me through the books of the Bible everything changed. I highly recommend this for the begining Bible reader. It explains the books and their purpose, and now I look forward to my daily reading time and find it much easier to absorb, reflect and apply His beautiful Word!
