One factor about this CD reissue that most Pink Fairies fans WOULD agree on is that it isn't as good as 'Never Never Land' or 'Kings Of Oblivion'.Still,it's not a bad choice,being originally released in 1972,'What A Bunch...' was the Fairies second longplayer.Contains some silliness,but the tracks that I thought pretty much carried their own weight are "Right On,Fight On" and "I Went Up,I Went Down".Plus,they do a nine-minute cover of The Venture's "Walk Don't Run" rather well.Twink had already left the band by the time 'What A...' was recorded,so through out MOST of the lp,there's strictly the trio of Hunter/Rudolph/Sanderson.Decent UK heavy psych.Comes with two bonus cuts and a VERY nice booklet packed with exclusive liner notes,artwork and photos.

Actually this is the weakest of the 3 Fairies original studio records however it is still a must. The record is carried primarily on two tracks "Right On Fight On " and "Walk Don't Run"; classic Fairie heavy psych. However the somewhat ballady "I Went Up, I went Down" ain't have bad either. The record closes with an unnessecary cover of the Beatles and two bonus tracks also unnessacry but an added incentive if your counting how many tracks you get for your money. Overall not as tripped out as "Never Never Land" and not as tight as "Kings of Oblivion" but "Walk Don't Run" may be the quintessential Faires tune so you must get this as well as the other two and then delve into the "Do It" Cd and if your feeling really dangerous "The Deviants"......just get it and forget about it.....

Pink Fairies' 'What a Bunch of Sweeties' album was really meant for three hungry rock musicians to showcase their talents. They might not be able to put together/write great songs, but they can sure as hell PLAY their instruments.

Case in point with the track 'Portobello Shuffle'. It probably has the best hard rock guitar solo I've ever heard. It appears towards the end of the song and the notes that spill out of Paul Rudolph's guitar just soar with the grace of an eagle; as if he is paying homage to the heavy metal gods above. Picture a bellbottomed madman standing in front of a stack of towering Marshall tube amps being taken over by his own playing and you have this song.

The other songs are just fine. 'I Went Up, I Went Down', however, is recorded rather poorly. There's also a whiny, dreariness to it making it a rather odd song to be in this album.

The beginning to Marilyn is downright awesome which leads up to one of the longest drum solos you ever heard. If you like drum solos, then this one might catch your fancy. If not.. then skip.

I liked Never Nerverland better than this album. But.. man, Portobello Shuffle!!

This second album has always been my favourite simply because its the first Pink Fairies album I bought in 1972 and I used to play continuous air guitar to Walk Dont Run, the album has a very loose sound to it compared to Pigs Of Oblivion which sounds very polished but is still very good.

the pink fairies the ungerground band who went mainstream with their debut "kings of oblivion" and now this album "what a bunch of sweeties" better than the half decent debut and much better than the over-long next album "never-neverland"
this in fact is their only album you need yeah the songs may be a tad bit to long yeah they should of been edited by about 3 minutes on the 8 minutes song, but the musicanship is there this band could surely rock...
the drumming is powerful strong and steady
the vocals are murky yet appealing
and the guitars and bass are sticky like glue
yeah the lyrics may sound naive but this was the early seventies don't forgot..
but anyway a great album from the pink fairies if you want a good album by the fairies this is the only one you need

If like me, you were interested in hearing the Pink Fairies because of their early associations with Hawkwind and guitarist Larry Wallis contribution to the early Motorhead....all I can say is don't bother. The musicianship is there, but the songs are lifeless, not even filler material, pointless, boring. I just can't find anything to like and I tried. Take a pass on the Pink Fairies(or a piss).
