WHAT SHE CAN'T SEE by Hunter Morgan,
By
This review is from: What She Can't See (Zebra Romantic Suspense) (Mass Market Paperback)
What she can't see might be right in front of her but she can't see it because of the unexpected. Hunter Morgan is at the top of her game with WHAT SHE CAN'T SEE as she joins two opposite people, Adam Thomas, an Hawaii Five O type FBI agent who's smart but very laid back, and Special Agent M.K. Shaughnessy who does everything by the book and abhors swearing. These two clash and bash as they are on the search of a horrible serial killer. You will love the banter between Adam and M.K. Adam is constantly teasing M.K. about what her initials stand for and M.K. is trying to get him to dress better for an FBI agent. Guess who wins? Could the two even fall in love? Oh, my, it gives me chills. The story moves at a rapid pace with tight suspense and fantastic characters that will keep you reading far into the night as you get to the amazing conclusion. Hunter Morgan is an author that keeps you guessing. I find her in league with Patricia Cornwell and Karin Slaughter. Don't miss this fine author or you will be sorry. Another Thilling Read!!!,
By
This review is from: What She Can't See (Zebra Romantic Suspense) (Mass Market Paperback)
Morgan Hunter's latest effort is a page turning effort that incorporates two very strong leads with a diabolically evil killer. The end result...a strong suspense read.M.K. Shaughnessy has just been paired up with a new partner. He's irreverent, and male. Two things M.K. has issues with. Or at least she does until she starts working with Adam. Their first case is put in their laps due to political wrangling. What seems to be one isolated case soon turns into more. M.K. thinks things seem just a tad to familiar when it comes to their new serial killing case. The victims are college students and the murders are grisly. Problem though is her partner, Adam is going to be stubborn on this and the longer he refuses to see what M.K. sees the more dangerous the killer will become. But the stakes are raised when Liza Jane, Adam's daughter starts poking into the investigation of the first case it brings the focus on her and now Liza Jane is facing danger and the chemistry between M.K. and Adam is heating up. Will M.K and Adam be able to catch this killer before the ultimate victim becomes the trophy of this unbalanced killer? This was an amazing read. Plenty of twist and turns, one truly evil killer and two strong leads that do not over power the storyline makes this a story with reading. Hunter Morgan is a fine author and one that makes this genre her own.

fine romantic police procedural,
This review is from: What She Can't See (Zebra Romantic Suspense) (Mass Market Paperback)
The four college students are nasty to the workers in the China Garden restaurant calling the waiter a faggot among other abominable behavior. After leaving, Drew Palmer, son of a senator, drives too fast and they crash. Gas is all over the place with the students trapped inside the vehicle when a Good Samaritan stops to help. The newcomer takes and ignites Drew's lighter before tossing it inside the Jeep. The police assume that a tragic vehicular accident occurred as there is no contrary evidence. Still since a senator's son was involved, the FBI takes a close look at the incident. Agents Adam Thomas and M.K. Shaughnessy conclude no foul play happened. A second similar death of a Chesapeake Bay student occurs. While M.K. wonders if a serial killer is on the loose, Adam thinks the college crowd is just being stupid. His daughter Liza Jane is writing an editorial for the college newspaper agreeing with M.K. Pushed by the two women in his life, his daughter and his partner, Adam reluctantly agrees to dig deeper not realizing that if he ignores his instincts these two females he cherishes could be the next victims. Fans of romantic police procedurals will take immense pleasure in the exciting action-paced WHAT SHE CAN'T SEE. The story line is fast-paced but insures the heroic trio is full figured characters while providing glimpses of the culprit. Though the final explanation of motive seems like a tidying of the investigation, fans will welcome Hunter Morgan's fine thriller and want more "She ..." tales like this one and SHE'LL NEVER TELL from this fine author. This could've been a five-star book, as it was written so well that I couldn't put it down. However, there were a few things that made it so I wasn't able to give it close to that.First off, there was no chemistry at all between Adam and M.K., nor anything that would ever make you think these two could be attracted to each other. This made the "romance" feel contrived, forced and totally unrealistic, and it detracted from the story. The other thing was that right from the start, they "key detail" about the culprit was obvious, which made their identity obvious. About halfway through the book, I was seriously hoping this person wasn't guilty and that it was someone...anyone...else, so that I wouldn't feel so letdown when I got to the end. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. It's a shame, really, because the author could've written it in a way that didn't make this person's identity obvious or call attention to them, and had the ending be a total surprise. I no doubt would've given it five stars then, despite the relationship between the main characters. Looking forward to reading more by this author!

FBI Special Agents M.K. Shaughnessy and Adam Thomas are no strangers to death and destruction. They might be relatively new to the office, and even a little reluctant to partner up, but they know that when a Senator's son is killed in a car accident, they're going to need to work hard to determine that it was an accident. After a talk with the Medical Examiner and the Chief of Police in the county where the accident took place, both Special Agents are convinced that the tragic loss of life of the Senator's son and three of his college friends was simply an unfortunate accident. Some people, however, are convinced that the tragic accident could have been avoided. One of those people is Liza Jane, Special Agent Thomas's daughter, who happens to attend the same college as the dead students-and also writes for the school newspaper. Now reprimanded by their boss for allowing his daughter to stir up Senator Palmer all over again, M.K. gets the distinct feeling that Liza Jane might be on to something. Other deaths, other so-called accidents, have occurred recently, all with the same mystifying circumstances as the college student's deaths. Now there seems to be a serial killer targeting young men and women, and M.K. and Adam are drawn into the tangled web of a killer. With no real clues where to begin their hunt for a deranged killer intent on destroying the city's youth, they end up closer and closer to danger. With Liza Jane and M.K. dragging an uncertain Adam into the investigation, the two ladies don't realize that they're being led deeper and deeper into the twisted minds of a killer unlike any they've ever faced before. WHAT SHE CAN'T SEE is a haunting yet engaging thriller that pits two FBI Special Agents and a young woman against the twisted mind of a killer who is having trouble separating reality from fiction. Hunter Morgan has once again written a police procedural novel with underlying hints of a romantic suspense plot, and come up with a winner. I have to say that the ending was complete surprise. You'll never guess who the killer is, and in a book of this type, that's always a sure bet that you need to keep on reading.

One of the silliest books I've picked up in a long long time. I could only manage to get through a quarter of it before I tossed it, but I did go to the end so I could see who the murderer was -- imagine, Dr. Wood, the female Medical Examiner, is really a hermaphrodite with a chip on his/her shoulder...Don't waste your time or money on this piece of tripe. |
