Product Description

You love your cat. And, of course, you want to keep your cat healthy for as long as possible. The one thing you can do that will make the most difference in your cat's health is to feed a wholesome, high quality diet. But with hundreds of brands and flavors of cat food on the shelves of grocery and pet supply stores, and contradictory information all over the Internet, how do you know which food is right for your cat?

Many serious feline health problems have a dietary component. Some are directly caused by diet, and all are affected by it. These medical problems can damage your cat's quality of life, as well as your wallet, since many of them, such as diabetes and kidney disease, are expensive to diagnose and to treat, and are very dangerous for your cat.

1. Learn how to read a cat food label. Find out which ingredients to look for, which ones to avoid, and how certain unappetizing animal 'parts' can be disguised in cat food.
2. Dry, canned, semi-moist, homemade, or raw? There are advantages and disadvantages to every diet; some are safe and some are not! Find out which of these is best for your cat!
3. Get the complete list of "Dr. Jean's Approved Brands". You don't have to spend hours reading labels; it's been done for you! Get the benefits of Dr. Jean's extensive research and find out, once and for all, which brands pass her strict standards, and where to buy them!
4. Find out what supplements your cat needs. There are hundreds of supplements out there. But don't waste your money ... there are only three supplements that every cat needs!

This review is from: What Cats Should Eat: How to Keep Your Cat Healthy with Good Food (Kindle Edition)
The top 5 cat health problems in the US are urinary tract infection, recurring gastritis/vomiting (a common sign of IBD), chronic renal failure, diarrhea, and diabetes. These are not natural problems for cats. I believe they are largely rooted in the high carb & grain kibble diets that even most vets approve/sell. I don't believe your vet means any harm, I just believe that as a society we haven't caught up with some facts about what is healthy for cats.

Dr. Hofve isn't selling any pet food, she's just a vet who thinks critically and cared enough to look more deeply at what is going on. Fortunately for us, she's written a great short but thorough guide to making better choices. Just about any question you've had about cat food ingredients and what to feed your cat(and why!)is answered in this book. The life you save may be your cat's!

More About the Author

In her 3rd year of veterinary school, Dr. Jean discovered holistic medicine, and everything changed! Over the years, her practice career included two feline-only clinics, as well as alternative modalities such as flower essences, Reiki, homeopathy, and homotoxicology. She retired from active practice in 2007.

Back in the early 1990s, Dr. Jean became interested in how pet food is made, what's in it, and how nutrition affects our pets' health. And that set her on the path of writing, educating, and consulting, all to help people understand how to use holistic treatments, and how best to feed their pets for optimal health and wellness--a path she continues to follow.

Dr. Jean has lived in Colorado for more than 30 years, but is nevertheless a Raiders fan--she claims it is a congenital defect from being born and raised in Oakland! She currently shares her home with four cats: Spencer, Sundance, Puzzle, and Flynn; and Goofy the Goldfish.
