Great Harmonies,

A jazz/blues rendition of What Child is This. The harmonies of the vocals are beautiful. The vocals are accompanied by piano and guitar and marches to a slow beat. About 3/4th through, the piano solos the melody and a few riffs.

Often times I find remakes of the classics to be a horrible experience, so when I saw Barlowgirl had released their own I was skeptical. However, after listening to a few tracks in 30 second preview I was hooked, purchased the full song and listened to it on replay for a long time.
Even-though the holidays have now passed I still have it in rotation and every once in a while I will seek it out myself to give it another listen. If you are a fan of holiday music or BarlowGirl in general I highly recommend you purchase this song and the CD it comes from.

A classic remake of a timeless song,
This review is from: What Child Is This? (MP3 Download)
While I respect differing opinions, I truly believe BarlowGirl did a fantastic job with this one. It's become one of my favorite versions of this song by far. The girls' voices are very mature and the harmonies are absolutely gorgeous. I don't see how anyone tried to make this song different or self-gratifying by any means; it is quite a beautiful rendition.

A Musical Risk that Pays Off!,
This review is from: What Child Is This? (MP3 Download)
Those familiar with BarlowGirl are more accustomed to the sounds of gritty rock guitars of fist-pumping, adrenaline-inducing tracks like Never Alone, Grey, Let Go and Million Voices.
Needless to say, a jazz-inspired traditional Christmas song... or entire album, nonetheless... is quite a musical risk for the Chicago trio. But it's a risk that pays off quite nicely. The girls demonstrate a musical mastery of a genre outside of their traditional realm and set the mood for an inspired Christmas. No, it's not what you may expect from the Chicago-based rock band. But this will quickly become a holiday favorite! Prepare a cup of hot chocolate, cuddle up in a favorite chair and soak up the sounds of the holiday sesason with this one.

These girls are a pretty good band, but I think that this version is pretty average, standard. If you like BarlowGirl, you'll like this.

Not Barlow Girl-ish,

Barlow Girl is known for their rock harmonies. For Christmas songs from popular artists I'm looking for the sound of the artist and a fresh take on a classic. In this case, we get another classic sung by a band singing like they sing classics. There is nothing here that reminds of Barlow Girl or the kind of music that Barlow Girl fans would enjoy. There isn't anything new in this song. There isn't any reason to recommend it over any other version.
This song is not a Barlow Girl song, which is too bad.

A bit sad, not too bad though...,

Slow jazzy version of the song. Yep, a bit on the depressing side, but if you like slow jazz, this isn't too bad for a free song!

Dreadful? I Think NOT...,

How anyone can call this "dreadful" is clearly beyond me. This is without a doubt one of the most heartfelt and beautiful renditions of this timeless classic to come along in years. Just because it variates from the traditional does not make it "dreadful". BarlowGirl took leap of faith and made this their own. While everyone is entitled to their own opinion, for the naysayers out there I say go pick on some of the other so-called "traditional" Christmas tunes and leave this one be. It is clearly at the top of the class in this year's Christmas releases!

I have to agree with another reviewer on this one. I really couldn't have deleted this any faster. This was the most slow and boring rendition of this song I've ever heard.

As a big fan of Christmas music I've heard many versions of this timeless classic. This one is too S-L-O-W. So much as to be depressing. There's a nice piano solo 2/3's into the number, but it's not enough to get it out of the doldrums. If I were to play this for visitors I would risk hosting a mass suicide. I couldn't delete it from my playlist fast enough. Have a joyous holiday, folks.
