What a wonderful book for children . . .,
By
This review is from: What Is Christmas? (Board book)
I just received this book and was so impressed with the message to help remind us all (big or small) the reason for celebrating Christmas while still acknowledging other activities of the season many enjoy. This book really provides a good balance while still stressing that the reason for season is the birth of Jesus. I will be recomending this book on my site www.christmasorganizing.com as a top pick for children's Christmas books.

It is nice to see a book written about why we celebrate Christmas. So much has been lost over the years with all the comercialization of Christmas. I enjoyed the flow of the book and the poetry.

This book is a great way to explain to our children that Christmas is not just for gifts and all the other great things that go with celebrating Christmas. It shows that Jesus is the real reason we celebrate Christmas.
Great Christmas book

Single Moms (and Dads) Beware,
By
This review is from: What Is Christmas? (Board book)
The title of my review sounds ominous! Well, it's not that bad, but my daughter is very young (18 months) and I am a single mom, and I am trying to not remind her that she doesn't have two happy parents. But in this brief, cute book, the reader is told that "Christmas is mom & dad kissing under the Mistletoe." Well, unfortunately that isn't what Christmas is here, so I am giving the book to a friend. Just a heads up for single parents.

I bought this book for my 2 y/o daughter and she has enjoyed it. Here are the pro's and con's:
Pro's: I liked that this book talks about all the fun Christmas traditions and gives the message at the end that all these things are great, but they aren't why we have Christmas. There are a few pages with a good message telling about Christmas being the celebration of Christ's birth. Con's: I found some of the writing and rhymes awkward and corny. The illustrations are also a little on the boring side. Not very colorful or exciting to look at. The book doesn't actually tell the Christmas story, just tells you that Christmas is about Christ. So, overall, I thought this was a good Christmas book with a nice message, but it's not as great as the other rave reviews claim it to be.

True Meaning of Christmas,

This book is wonderful! It rhymes, has cute illustrations and speaks in a way for children to truly understand the real meaning behind Christmas and why we celebrate.

3rd Christmas reading it to my little ones...,

I have a 4 year old daughter and 15 month old son. My daughter loves reading this book year-round. My son is a little young for it to hold his attention very long, but he does carry it to me and say "boo" as if asking to be read to.
I love that it addresses the other traditions but also clarifies the real reason for Christmas. If you happen to be opposed to any secularization, than this book probably won't be for you or your kids, but I personally like the rhymes, the pictures, and the point.

Just what we were looking for!,

This review is from: What Is Christmas? (Board book)
I bought this book last year for my 2.5 year old. We recently brought it back out (he is now 3.5) with all the other Christmas decor and he has insisted we read it EVERY night. My husband and I were looking for a way to explain to him that Jesus is the reason for the season, but without completely discarding all the other holiday traditions that we knew he would be exposed to at school and in the stores and on tv. We want him to be able to enjoy some of the fun and magic of Christmas that his friends will surely talk about with excitement, but without losing sight of the point. We found this book to be an excellent way to do that. No, it doesn't elaborate on the Christams story (the birth of Christ), but that's what the Bible is for. We have found this book to be age appropriate and he really enjoys it and seems to understand....in fact, I just purchased one of the Little People nativity sets b/c he has been asking for a baby Jesus and mommy and daddy after seeing the ones in this book. He recognizes that a nativity scene should be incorporated into all of our other Christmas decorations. Very pleased with this book!

Great Christmas Book,

My daughter, 18 months, really likes this book. She called it the "Kissing Book" for the first month we had it because of the page that says, "Is it about the mistletoe where Mom and Daddy kiss?" Great book for remembering that while Christmas trees, Santa, and presents are okay, Jesus is the real reason we have a Christmas Day. We also like the Easter book, which has a similar cadence, and "I Love You", both by Candy Cane Press.

This book isn't my favorite Christmas book but it is still okay. It is for younger kids who only want to read a few words per page.
